Bay Area Poets Gather in Oakland for Black Box Sessions"
May 5th, Oakland, CA- Casa Mena is proud to announce an intense poetry gathering in entitled The Black Box Sessions". It will undoubtedly be one of the hottest gatherings of spoken word poets, MCs, dancers and live instrumentation artists in the Bay Area this year.
The Black Box is located at 1928 Telegraph Ave. Oakland, CA. Near the 19th St. BART station. The sessions will go down every Wednesday in May: 7 + 14 + 21 + 28 At the Black Box from 8:00-12:00 p.m.
The Black Box Sessions" will include Master Percussionist Michael Spiro, Susana Arenas Pedroso and her Afro-Cuban folkloric dance group Olorun, Gabrilla Ballard, Kymberly Jackson, Sonia Whittle, Ise Lyfe, Aya De Leon, Feenom Circle, Spaztik EMCEE, 4 OneFunk DJs, Suashia, SoulsJourney, Noe Venable, Allseer, Soulati(Felonious), Angeleye, DJ Teeko, Michelle Martin, Rupert Estanislao (Def Poetry Jam), Noņameko, Cesar Cruz(End-Dependence), Hanifah Walidah, Marc Bamuthi Joseph (Def Poetry Jam), Jessica Grande(Epicentro), Ariel Luis(Ill-Literacy), Yaddos, and selected performances from Carlos Mena's debut release Hip-Hop Meditations.
The official Casa Mena record company launch party will happen on the 28th of May and is not to be missed. Carlos Mena, CEO of Casa Mena who just returned from the End Dependence tour stated This will be a fresh month of poetry for the spoken word and Hip Hop community of the Bay Area to gather and share their passion to music, for art, and for life in general. If spoken word, and conscious Hip Hop lyrics are what you enjoy, then I invite you to come down and be a part of the Black Box Sessions."
