Incinerate Sensitive Information from Your Computer with System Mechanic's Incinerator Tool

Award-winning utility tool provides seamless military-strength security into Microsoft Windows

PASADENA, CALIFORNIA (PRWEB) May 6, 2003 - Recently, Massachusetts Institute of Technology graduate students Simson Garfinkel and Abhi Shelat conducted a study on the security issues surrounding the prevention of unauthorized disclosure of confidential data stored on computer disk drives. The results they reported were alarming. 99.9 per cent of deleted files remained in areas of the hard drive that were inaccessible and uncleanable by the standard Windows deletion and formatting operations. As a result, private, confidential, personal, or proprietary information was retrieved with simple software tools.

Large numbers of PCs and hard drives are sold via the Internet, used computer resellers, or swap meets. As a result, files containing banking details, medical records, credit card numbers, love letters, and other personal correspondence could be made available to third parties, making identity and credit card theft a real possibility. The MIT students were able to uncover more than 5,000 credit card numbers, medical reports, detailed personal and corporate financial information, and several gigabytes worth of personal email and pornography from 158 disk drives they purchased for less than $1,000 from the Internet and swap meets.

iolo technologies' award-winning System Mechanic gives PC users a military-strength solution to fight back with its powerful Incinerator tool. Incinerator can quickly and selectively delete files and folders that the user wants to eliminate, with no possibility of recovery by any means.

When installed, Incinerator appears and operates as a secondary Recycle Bin-type icon on the Desktop, integrating seamlessly into the Windows operating system and extending it into all areas where secure file removal is applicable. Users can select single or multiple files or folders with their mouse and access the "Send to Incinerator" option or drag and drop them into the Incinerator icon.

Once deleted by Incinerator, information is gone permanently, with no possible means of retrieval. This includes attempts at recovery via software-based, mechanical, or electromagnetic methods. Incinerator uses time-tested and military intelligence accepted methods of renaming, overwriting, and truncating data that far exceeds official government NSA requirements, so users can be ensured that their information is removed permanently.

System Mechanic also features a collection of other powerful tools for preventative computer maintenance. It cleans a machine's system registry, finds and removes obsolete files, finds and fixes broken shortcuts, eliminates Internet session footprints, and streamlines system maintenance, so desktop PCs and laptops of any age and processor speed will run faster, cleaner, and more smoothly. Its NetBooster tool increases Internet and network connections speeds by up to 300%, and works with all Internet connections, including modems, DSL, cable modems, ISDN, LAN, and even satellite connections. Users are able to transfer more data at once, resulting in faster download and upload times, email sending and receiving, Web browsing, and online gaming.

Fully functional evaluation copies of System Mechanic are available upon request or can be downloaded from the iolo web site (www.iolo.com). Press kits containing System Mechanic may also be obtained by contacting Lee Appleyard at
