www.friend-ships.com was founded by Deena in 2002. An ex-crew member herself, Deena worked onboard some of the worlds most luxurious cruise ships for over five years as a fitness instructor and salon manager. She then spent a couple of years at home and lost touch with many close friends and colleagues from her time at sea.

Deena realized that due to the transient nature of shipping (either as passenger or crew) there needed to be a focal point to aid communications between seafarers to continue the unique bond that is made at sea. Thats when the www.friend-ships.com brainwave came about.

The greatest reward of taking on such a huge task is the joy of receiving letters from sailors who were at sea in the 1950's and now have the facility to find their old friends. Also, ship societies who try to maintain monthly contact throughout the world now having the means to keep in touch anytime. Not to mention the thousands of people like myself for who cruise ships played such a big part of their life. Im now able to contact my old colleagues and friends. It really makes everything we are doing seem worthwhile."
