Sean Conant's "The Rising of the Moon" wins 2003 (Biography) Telly Award

"The Rising of the Moon," recently won a 2003 Telly Award in the Biography category. The film uses (Irish hunger-striker) Bobby Sands' own words, from his diary, to dramatize his thoughts about the Troubles in Northern Ireland during the 1970's.

20-year-old Irish American actor/writer/producer Sean Conant recently received good news from his LA representative - he won a 2003 Telly Award.

Conant's film, "The Rising of the Moon," tells the story of the Northern Irish H-Block hunger strikes, focusing particularly on Bobby Sands' involvement. While the film was directed by Deborah Baxtrom, Conant himself wrote the screenplay. "I'm happily surprised that this film won the Award." said Conant. "I thought this material to be quite uncommon for American audiences. Most Americans and Canadians will tell me that Northern Ireland is a terrible land. These same people have never been to the place, and have relied completely on television bits to base this theory on. Outside of Ireland, people have a quick idea of the North. It is important that people know this is neither a 'pro' nor 'anti' IRA film...I thought Bobby Sands' words may be difficult for people (everywhere) to understand. However, it turned out alright, and it's just now starting to win awards. I hope people continue to enjoy the film, regardless of politics and theories."

The news came to Conant after he met with Irish director Jim Sheridan, in Boston. The young talent is speaking with Sheridan's company, Hell's Kitchen, about future film projects.
