Canadian Guitar Virtuoso Rik Emmett To Perform in New York's Capital Region on Friday, June 20th

With ten solo albums to his credit, this former Triumph lead vocalist/guitarist continues to surprise and impress critics with his versatility. He will perform an intimate solo show on Friday June 20th at Northern Lights in Clifton Park, NY that will include Rock, Jazz, Folk, Classical and Blues.

CLIFTON PARK, NY (PRWEB) May 16, 2003 - Jazz, Rock, Blues, Classical, Folk, and Pop will all be featured together in one show when Rik Emmett visits the Capital Region next month. Canada's eclectic Renaissance Man of the Guitar will perform at Northern Lights, 1208 Route 146 in Clifton Park on Friday, June 20th. Doors open at 7:30 p.m., tickets are $12 in advance, $14 day of show.

One of the most versatile guitarists around, Emmett has been inducted into the Canadian Rock Hall of Fame for his gold and platinum work with the power rock band Triumph. He is counted amongst the world's finest guitarists, and has performed alongside legendary performers such as George Benson, Randy Bachman, and Steve Vai. He continues to surprise critics and fans with his vast musical expression, which runs the gamut from rock to jazz to classical to folk. Rik's most recent offering is an instrumental smooth-jazz album entitled HANDIWORK which went top ten on the charts, and was selected the #1 Canadian Smooth Jazz album of the year.

This summer, Emmett will be releasing a new singer/songwriter collection entitled GOOD FAITH. "In this day and age," says Emmett, "songwriting and music-making continue to make their own best argument as acts of good faith. The moral rights and imperatives inherent in these very human endeavours shine through, offering spiritual comfort and soul food. I wanted to try and have a go in that direction." GOOD FAITH will feature 11 songs.

What can fans expect at Northern Lights on June 20th? A tasty combination of fresh new music mixed with some of the classics he is known for. "I don't mind playing the old songs, or a certain portion of them," Emmett says. "Some of them I love playing, they're still good songs and they still mean a lot to me. It's human nature. People want to hear that soundtrack from their lives. But there's a certain element where the artist is up there going, 'Hey, I'm still alive and kicking and I'm doing new stuff now.' But some people do allow you a certain level of self-indulgence."

And what's Emmett's self-indulgence? His knack for storytelling.

"All those years with Triumph, I literally had to keep my mouth shut," Emmett says. "It took me a few years. Now I finally got the hang of it and now people can't shut me up."

RIK EMMETT will perform Friday, June 20th at Northern Lights, 1208 Route 146, Clifton Park, NY. Phone (518) 371-0012. Tickets are $12 in advance and $14 day of show, available for purchase at Northern Lights or online at www.northernlights-live.com.
