USA International Fashion Shows Making Dreams Come True for Up-and-Coming Lebanese Designer Mayssan Shuayb

The wide variety of participating talented designers is one of the unique features of the USA International Fashion Shows -- a reflection of how small and yet versatile the fashion world has become.

Mayssan Shuayb is a 31 year-old designer with degrees in biology and education. During her college years, she switched majors numerous times because she was not able to pursue her dream: fashion design. But as Mayssan puts it, There is one thing that I did learn from all of those situations: a person can never take away the dreams and hopes of another person no matter what.

I first fell in love with fashion, and the beauty of clothes when I was 12 years old," says Mayssan. "My grandmother was a famous couture designer in my native country of Lebanon. She designed for the rich, sophisticated and elite women there. I grew up watching her make beautiful clothing and became fascinated with how she could take a piece of fabric and turn it into a masterpiece.

I took my love of fashion and studied it for 2 years. Soon after that, I left it and majored in other fields, but I was never happy. Finally, at the age of 31, which I am now, I decided to follow my dreams and do the one thing I love the most: design. My dream has come true! I now have my own fashion company and I will be having my first fashion show as part of the USA International Fashion Shows in September of 2003."

Mayssan has been inspired by such classic designers as Oscar de la Renta and Carolina Herrera. Her design goal is to make a woman look beautiful, elegant and sophisticated at all times, whether during the daytime or for a night out on the town. "I am all about attention. I want women that wear my clothes to catch everyones attention from the minute they step out of the car," asserts the designer.

The fabrics for Mayssan's line range from embroidered denim to beaded fabrics, resulting in chic garments. "Relaxing with jeans during the day, going to a business meeting or going out in the evening -- a woman will look glamorous and elegant in these designs," says Mayssan.
