Pasadena, CA -- Over the past two months, local Pasadena fashion designer Julia Szkiba has been gathering together fellow apparel and accessories designers to launch a new group whose goal would be to unite and encourage the use of non-animal products in the designs of apparel and accessories. Over the next few months, this new group will focus on working together as a steering committee for a charity fashion show and fundraiser. The beneficiary will be a local animal charity (to be announced at the first meeting). The goal is to have this first event during LA Fashion week in November 2003.
Stella McCartney isnt the only designer who cares about animals...I have never designed apparel using leathers or furs, and I myself only wear synthetic fabrications, as well as use cruelty-free cosmetics," says Ms. Szkiba. I placed a few ads here and there to see what kind of response I would receive if I could pull together other designers like myself, and I was pleasantly surprised to hear from nearly 30 fellow designers from the Los Angeles area who thought this was a great idea. I am looking for more members so that we have a strong group to initiate this first project of showcasing our designs in a fashion show which would also serve as a fundraising event for a local animal charity."
"I have chaired events for a couple of local animal organizations as well as having been in charge of the silent auction for the past eight events of Actors and Others for Animals Celebration of Caring Annual Celebrity Fashion Show, Luncheon and Silent Auction Event, which most recently was held in November 2002."
As time goes by, this group of Fur & Feathered Friendly Fashions (working title of group) would like to set-up a nationwide network to help other eco and animal friendly designers get the word out about their products, help one another share business experiences, as well as possibly working with established sales reps to have a showroom for the group to showcase these designs, as well as encourage boutiques and other stores to carry these compassionate fashions.
Designers who have eco and animal friendly products are encouraged to join this group. The first meeting will be held on Saturday, May 31, 2003 at a Burbank, California location. Please email Julia Szkiba at zoomkit@aol.com. Please put ECO -FRIENDLY FASHION GROUP into subject heading of email.
