Global Needlestick Prevention Group Adds Twelve New Corporate Members
SOUTH JORDAN, Utah (PRWEB) May 22, 2003 -- ISIPS, the International Sharps Injury Prevention Society, today announced the addition of 12 new members. These corporate members have joined with ISIPS to promote their safety products that reduce needlestick and other sharps injuries. These new corporate members include Bemis Manufacturing -- Healthcare Products Group, Biomedical Safety Technologies, LLC., Needlestick Prevention Tour, TAP Pharmaceutical Products, Inc., RN Support, Chip'Em, L.O.M. Medical International Inc., Maximus Medical Products, Inc., Allan Medical Safety Systems, American Health & Safety Systems, Perfecta Products, and Baxter Bioscience. "Each of these new members make products and services available to help reduce the trauma from accidental needlesticks and other sharps injuries," said Ron Stoker, Executive Director of ISIPS.
About the new corporate members:
Bemis Mfg.-- Healthcare Products Group
For over 100 years, Bemis Manufacturing Company has committed to bringing a higher standard to everything they produce. Bemis has developed safe and cost effective products to deal with the collection and disposal of blood and hazardous sharps. Their SharpSentinel(TM) line of sharps disposal containers comes in a variety of sizes to fit any application. The No-Pokes(TM) Needle Safety Device provides a convenient place to park a needle in a cap while the healthcare professional starts an IV or performs other single-handed procedures. For more information call 800/558-7651 or visit their website at www.Bemismfg.com.
Biomedical Safety Technologies, LLC.
Biomedical Safety Technologies, LLC, in association with MicroStim® Technologies, Inc., has introduced three novel medical devices called "Preemptive Bandages(TM)."
These new pre-puncture devices afford a greatly enhanced degree of protection to injection sites because they are applied before the skin is punctured. By the time the skin is broken; the isolation of the site has already occurred with the Injection Patch(TM) and is completed within a fraction of a second with the Invasive Site Patch. Sites are protected from contamination, physical trauma, and human exposure to bloodborne pathogens is minimized and contaminated sharps can be disposed of immediately. Some of these devices have been designed specifically for use with smallpox vaccinations, although the scope of their use for preventing needlestick injuries and transmission of bloodborne pathogens is much broader than this one niche. For more information call 954/720-4383 or visit their website at www.smallpoxvaccine.us.
Needlestick Prevention Tour
Needlestick Prevention Tour is an established seminar that provides detailed, practical information from experts on how to comply with the Needlestick Safety and Prevention Act while reducing sharps injuries. The program discusses OSHA's enforcement directives and the federal needlestick prevention law that was passed in November 2001. The seminar focuses on practical discussion among the participants and the presenters on how best to ensure compliance with all applicable standards. Over 70 medical devices are discussed. Faculty members include Michael Garvin, Chuck Kupka, Ron Stoker with special appearances from Rita McCormick. For more information call 801/280-8797 or visit their website at www.needlestickpreventiontour.com.

Chip'Em
The Dutch firm Chip'Em® specializes in NEEDLESTICK PREVENTION. They have developed a new product in the battle against needlestick injuries called "the ChipIt®."
One of the unique aspects of the ChipIt® is that it destroys used needles immediately following use in an environmentally friendly manner. With one movement the user is able to separate the needle from the syringe and destroy the sharp needle simultaneously. The left over waste can be handled safely by waste management. For more information call +31-413-320629 or visit their website at www.needlechipper.com.
L.O.M. Medical International Inc.
L.O.M. Medical International, Inc. has designed, developed and patented the "next generation" retractable safety syringe technology. Once medication is delivered, a simple additional gentle push on the plunger activates the retraction. The needle retracts in a smooth, controlled, and consistent fashion into the barrel of the syringe disabling the device and preventing reuse. The technology avoids blood splattering and tissue tearing and virtually eliminates the chance of a needlestick injury. For more information call 604/602-9400 or visit their website at www.lomm.com.
Maximus Medical Products, Inc.
Maximus Medical Products, Inc. is an innovative company with an active R&D focus. With their backgrounds and experience in medicine and nursing, medical device manufacturing, and medical sales, they continue to work with healthcare providers to develop products that improve patient care outcomes, decrease nursing procedure times, increase clinician safety, and reduce healthcare costs. One of their innovative products, the MaxPlus, is a positive displacement, needlefree IV connector, that is designed to eliminate retrograde blood flow into the catheter lumen, thus preventing potential infusion complications. For more information call 714/424-6190 or visit their website at www.maximusmedical.com.

Perfecta Products, Inc.
Perfecta Products, Inc. of Berlin Center, OH, distributes the DISINTEGRATOR Plus(TM) needle disintegration unit. Perfecta Products is best known for the Zim's Crack Creme® line of herbal skin restoration products specifically formulated for severely dry, cracked skin. The company caters to the diabetic user with products like "Diabetic Formula," specially designed for the fingers and feet of diabetic patients. The Disintegrator Plus comes as a welcomed safeguard for the nearly five million diabetics who, on average, use as many as five syringes per day. Diabetics account for up to 3.6 billion syringes entering the waste stream annually. This volume of refuse creates a dangerous health risk if the syringes are not properly discarded. For more information call 800/319-2225 or visit their website at www.crackcreme.com/index.htm.
Baxter BioScience
The BioScience business of Baxter provides a portfolio of therapeutic proteins derived from either human plasma or recombinant technology. Baxter BioScience strives to provide the highest quality therapies to enhance the lives of patients requiring support for coagulation deficiencies, surgical hemostasis and tissue sealing, immune deficiencies, and others. In surgery, the ability of the surgeon to control bleeding quickly can help reduce complications and can lead to improved patient outcomes. Baxter has extensive experience in the use of fibrin sealant technology to assist surgeons in their efforts to control bleeding and seal tissue. In 1998 Baxter introduced in the United States TISSEEL VH Fibrin Sealant, the first ever commercially available fibrin sealant product. TISSEEL VH Fibrin Sealant kit contains virally inactivated human fibrinogen and human thrombin, two components that occur naturally in blood. When delivered via a dual-chamber applicator, these components form fibrin. TISSEEL VH Fibrin Sealant replicates the natural blood clotting process to stop bleeding in surgical procedures involving cardiopulmonary bypass and repair of the spleen. TISSEEL VH Fibrin Sealant has also been shown to be an effective sealant as an adjunct in the closure of colostomies. Since its release in Europe in 1978, TISSEEL VH Fibrin Sealant has been used in over 8 million surgical procedures around the world.
