CEO of Tyco, Ed Breen, to speak about Tyco Scandal and Business Ethics to students at Northwestern University
The CEO of Tyco will be the first speaker to kick off a national Lecture Series at colleges across the nation entitled the StartingBloc Business and Society Lecture Series. Sponsored by StartingBloc(www.startingbloc.org), this Lecture Series is dedicated to the awareness of the social issues of business, such as corporate social responsibility and business ethics.

Evanston, Illinois - May 15, 2003: The Delta Sigma Pi business fraternity (www.dspnu.com) at Northwestern University announced today its partnership with StartingBloc (www.startingbloc.org), a national nonprofit organization dedicated to the education and development of socially responsible business leaders. Ed Breen, CEO of Tyco International, will be speaking at Medills Tribune Center in the Forum room on Thursday May 22nd at 6:30 PM to kick off a year long Lecture Series entitled the Delta Sigma Pi StartingBloc Business and Society Lecture Series. Breen, former President and COO of Motorola, left Motorola in 2002 to become the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Tyco International. Breen, the first CEO to ever terminate an entire executive team and a companys entire board, will be speaking about the hurdles he faces in rebuilding the Tyco conglomerate and renewing stakeholder confidence following the scandal.
With nearly 200 chapters around the nation, and 197,000 alumni, Delta Sigma Pi (www.dspnet.org) is Americas Foremost Professional Business Fraternity. The Northwestern Zeta chapter became inactive nearly 40 years ago and is now in the process of re-founding on campus(www.dspnu.com). Delta Sigma Pi is responsible for bringing Mr. Breen to campus, and has partnered with StartingBloc to bring even more speakers of this caliber throughout the course of next year. Delta Sigma Pi recognizes the absence of business education and business speakers at Northwestern and is dedicated to enriching the Northwestern Campus by continuing to provide the highest quality events that focus on the important intersection of business and society.

Breen will be present at the Delta Sigma Pi reception from 6:30PM -- 7:00PM (open to the public), and will begin speaking around 7:00PM. Following his speech, Breen will entertain questions for the duration of his remaining time.
