Patriotic fan saves John Wayne home

John Wayne's Newport Beach, Ca. home was recently demolished, and would have been lost forever had it not been for the efforts of a local businessman whom rescued pieces of the famous landmark and is now selling them with a generous portions of the proceeds to benefit charity.

With the current surge of patriotism sweeping the nation one Newport Beach Ca.
man decided to do what he could to preserve a part of history. Michael Thornton, a successful Realtor recently put his business on hold to save John Wayne's home for posterity.

"Like many I was saddened to read in the newspaper that John Wayne's home was slated to be demolished, but when I discovered the house would end up at the dump I became outraged. I kept thinking about it and knew I had to do something to save such an important part of history. John Wayne made 22 movies while living in that house. I've been a big fan since the first time I saw the Quiet Man and discovered I shared a name with the Wayne character in the movie. Being a longtime resident in Newport Beach I know how well respected John Wayne is in the local community as well as the rest of the nation. He was the genuine article, a symbol of what makes America great. And at a time when America is hungry for heroes I couldn't believe 'The Duke's' home, where he lived until his death, would be lost forever. As far as I'm concerned we could use more men like John Wayne."

Thornton rescued a limited amount of wood from the demolished home and is offering the pieces for sale with a certificate of authenticity. "People just love owning a piece of true history, this home was a landmark, folks would come by in tours boats hoping to catch a glimpse of 'The Duke' states Thornton. "They love to look at, and touch anything that has to do with our great heroes, even more so if they have an opportunity to contribute to a good cause." Thornton plans to donate a large percentage of the proceeds to charity.
