BACK TO MINE in THE TORONTO FRINGE FESTIVAL 2003
What's behind you can bite you in the ass. BACK TO MINE is a steamy, sexy close-up of the ins and outs of two relationships with one thing in common: Christian. 'Now reminds him a lot of 'then and his mind is a muddle of what is and what was.
The play starts with Ross and Christians break up and we follow their story as it moves backwards in time. Jay and Christian meet and we follow their story as it moves forwards in time. Jay and Ross both get a piece of Christian, but its Christian who discovers that theres another piece thats all too important to overlook.
Weaving back and forth until time begins to blur in two duelling time-sequences, wit plays against pain. BACK TO MINE is a smart look at moving past disaster -- and -- finding out what was meant to be hidden. BACK TO MINE features actors-on-the-rise Stephen Sheffer (last summers Cannibal! The Musical) and Ashleigh Jeffrey. Directed by Daniel Nyman, co-creator of Im Gay, Basically, produced by Samantha Haladner, with set and lighting design by Nicholas Hanson.
BACK TO MINE comes from new playwright Stephen Sheffer, but this is by no means its debut performance -- it has been staged as a reading twice: once in Vancouver by the Out West Performance Society and at Queens University with the support of playwright John Lazarus.
