FREEZING METHOD FOR REMOVING WARTS NOW AVAILABLE OVER-THE-COUNTER -- FDA Approved Wartner(R) Removes Warts In One Treatment, Gone In Two Weeks

For the first time, the physician preferred method of wart removal is available over the counter at stores nationwide. The system is called Wartner and it freezes warts away in the comfort of the consumer's home. It is safe to use on adults and children over the age of four. Children are the group most affected by the virus that causes warts.

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (PRWEB) May 23, 2003 -- Ugly, embarrassing warts have a new reason to hide due to the introduction of Wartner(R), an innovative over-the-counter (OTC) wart removal product that puts the freeze on warts -- literally. Wartner uses a cryotherapy technique similar to liquid nitrogen, the most successful method of wart removal traditionally used by physicians.

In a single 20-second at home treatment, Wartner eradicates most common warts in less than two weeks. Safe and effective for use on adults and children as young as four years of age, the FDA approved wart removal system is now available in food, drug and discount stores nationwide and for purchase online at www.wartner-us.com.

Distributed by LDS Consumer Products, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Wartner is easy and safe to use with its foolproof system. It uses a mixture of dimethyl ether (DME) and propane to freeze the core of the wart at a temperature of --57 C (--70 F). In comparison, liquid nitrogen is effective at a temperature of --196 C (--320.8 F). The mixture is released into a foam pad attached to a key" applicator and is then held on the wart for a single 10- to 20-second treatment.

Wartner offers a new solution for removing warts because other home remedies, like Compound W and duct tape, require multiple applications and can take up to 12 weeks to work," said Steve Bosking, director of marketing at LDS Consumer Products. This unique product provides a quick and effective option for the estimated nine million Americans who get warts every year."

According to John H. Wollner, M.D., a dermatologist in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Wartner is just as effective as seeing a doctor. Wartner has proven destructive to most warts and I am confident in recommending this product to my patients because it is safe, effective and typically they only need to use it once. Because it usually requires one application, I can be certain they will follow through in treatment. This is beneficial in that it saves my patients time and money."

Suggested retail price for Wartner is $19.99 and includes 10 treatments. Wartner is the first innovative wart removal product to hit store shelves in years. Other OTC wart products sell at an average price of $8 to $10 and require multiple purchases given the number of applications required to remove the wart. Wartner has been proven safe and effective in Europe since 1998 and is distributed in 30 countries.

The OTC wart removal product category in the U.S. is a $65 million business at retail. OTC wart removal brands include Wartner(R) from LDS Consumer Products, Dr. Scholls(R) and Duofilm(R) from Schering-Plough Corporation (NYSE: SGP), Compound W(R) from MedTech Inc. and Wart-Off(R) from Pfizer Inc. (NYSE: PFE).

LDS Consumer Products, Inc. is the sole U.S. distributor for Wartner and holds a license agreement with Wartner Medical Products, a Dutch company. LDS Consumer Products is a privately-held company. It promotes and distributes innovative OTC consumer healthcare products to food, drug, discount and convenience stores nationwide. Other products include Replens(R), LegatrinPM(R), and Vaporizer in a Bottle(R). LDS Consumer Products is headquartered in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and can be found on the Internet at www.lildrugstore.com.
