Connecticut priest steps out from behind the altar armed only with his pen

A Connecticut Priest believes the pen is still a better weapon than the sword. So he offers his writings as proven pathways to change, courage and peace

With all that is going on around us, war, terror, fear, poverty, sometimes we feel helpless. But there are now really good books that show us we can change our lives just by reaching out and helping others. In his writings, Father Patrick Berkery, Ph.D., shows you how you can make a difference in this crazy, mixed up world. The method he teaches is simple, effective, and proven.
We all need help. So many people today are confused and disturbed by the incredible spate of bad news all around us. Some of us will no longer read the newspaper or watch TV news because it is all so depressing. How can we make it all go away? The fact is we can do something about it. We can reach out to help those whose lives are spinning crazily in a never-ending whirl of despair and darkness. We are our brothers keeper. The key is to be able to see the flags, read the signs, be there when it looks like the worst has finally arrived. You dont need to be a professional to help. You just have to trust yourself. If you love your own life, you will want to share. By following Father Berkerys techniques and going outside of yourself to be with others in need, youll discover your reaching out lets you and a friend, relative or complete stranger walk away winners every time.
People call me Father Pat. I am assigned to St. Anthonys Parish. I used to teach but several years ago, because of the shortage of priests, I got my first assignment to a parish with real life people. I love parish life more than teaching because people appreciate everything you do and go out of their way to support you and make sure you are not sick, lonely or discouraged. The clergy sex-scandal has made parishioners aware of your humanity and despite the few bad apples, they recognize most priests are good, holy, and caring. "
Dr. Berkery has written several books over the years including: "Dont Be Sad Its Not Worth It"; "Walk a Mile in My Shoes -- Gripping Real Life Stories"; "God Helps Those Who Help"; "Where is God? There He is" and "God is calling...got a minute?". He has taught in seminaries, colleges and universities. He received his Ph.D. from St. Thomas University in Rome where he majored in the history of philosophy. He was also certified in pastoral counseling and sacred oratory, both subjects he taught at the college level. He loves being a priest and he is so grateful he can help people in their good times and bad.
