The Curse of Kali"; Publisher: lst Books Library; $22.50; Author, Audrey Blankenhagen. To order Call 888-280-77l5. Also sold on Amazon.com, Barnes & Noble.(Available through Ingram Books in Print Database)

Direct from Epsom, Surrey, England, an exciting new writer with an exciting book -- Set in the mid-nineteenth century in India, when the East India Company and the British Empire ruled India. A gorgeous love story against the social whirl of the British living in the splended islolation of the Raj, the machinations" of a sinister cult of the Goddess Kali" and the beauty and barbarity of the Indian scene, two lovers yearn for love despite every obstacle. The book is written during the turbulent period of Indian unrest, the Indian Mutiny of l857, and Blankenhagen weaves an engaging tale of blood, love, history, passion and intrigue.

Featured in this historical background within this exciting story is a fanatical, secret society called the Thugs", which existed since the fourteenth century and roamed the country pretending to befriend travellers and then robbing and strangling them with their so-called sacred rumels" (a sacred scarf or cord) and secretly burying their bodies. The Thugs" whose worship of the Goddess Kali was the basis for their ritual murders and primevil sexuality, had long evaded the law, because the loss of a traveller in India could be attributed to a wild animal or some other mishap. This was one of the most difficult times in Indian history.

Blankenhagen is a child of the Raj." Born in Calcutta, many of her relatives served in British India either as civil administrators or in the British Army. Educated at an English boarding school nestled at the foot of the Himalayas, she returned with her family to England when India gained its independence in l947. She currently resides in leafy Surrey near Epsom, Downs, the home of the famous Derby, the blue riband of the English horse racing season." This is Blankhagens first book.

I urge you to interview this author while she is visiting the United States. This is an exciting interview!!!
