Ouroboros Publishing puts "Patanjali: Yoga Sutra, translation and commentary by Danijel Turina" on web

Ouroboros Publishing is making its newest book - Patanjali: Yoga Sutra, translation and commentary - exclusively available on the web for readers before its official release. The book is not yet finished - it is in early stage of copy editing, but Ouroboros is making it available to the readers for personal use before the release of both printed and e-book versions. The book is scheduled for release in fall 2003.

About the book:
Yoga Sutra is the basic scripture of Yoga, in the sense of a Hindu philosophical view, essential for anyone who wants to gain deeper insight of the spiritual aspects of yoga. In translation and commentary by the founder and teacher of darœana-yoga, this text is highly demanding to the reader, revealing the true nature of yoga as the quest for the highest reality through a union of study of the holy scriptures, the techniques of purification, and devotion to God.

About the author:
Little is known about Patanjali, and most of it is mythological data from Vedic scriptures. It is not certain when he wrote the Yoga Sutra - the theories range from 2nd century BC to 6th century AD. Yoga Sutra does not seem to contain radically new inventions by Patanjali - in fact, he seems only to have written down the aphorisms previously conveyed by disciplic lineage. So, it does not seem quite fair to credit a single man with this doctrine. One should also have in mind that the briefness of the text, as well as the lack of explanations, have their cause in the traditional approach to the written instructions; they had the sole purpose of a reminder to the initiated ones, and were never meant to be used outside the disciplic lineage, where the explanations were transmitted from guru to disciple.

About the translator / author of commentary:
Danijel Turina is spiritual teacher and a Master of yoga, living in Zagreb, Croatia.
