YOUTHS TAKING ACTION IN SARS RECOVERY: Power Unit is organizing Nite It Up - Asian Night Market 2003 to help bring Toronto back to life

Nite It Up -- Asian Night Market 2003 simulates the chaotic and lively streets of places like Hong Kong and Taiwan. All proceeds from this event will be donated to The Scarborough Hospital -- Grace Division to aid victims of SARS.

TORONTO (PRWEB) May 25, 2003 - Youths realize that they do not have to be the Rolling Stones to do their part in the SARS recovery in Toronto. The Power Unit -- a youth leadership organization -- has been working hard on organizing the Nite It Up -- Asian Night Market 2003" event scheduled for July 4th and 5th at Metro Square located at 3636 Steeles Avenue East from 7 p.m. to 1 a.m. All proceeds from this event will be donated to The Scarborough Hospital -- Grace Division to aid victims of SARS.

With the many cancelled trips to Asia this summer, Power Unit hopes to bring a part of Asia to Toronto. Nite It Up simulates the festive and chaotic atmosphere of Asian night markets found in places like Taiwan and Hong Kong, both of which have been hit hard by SARS.

Since the outbreak of SARS last March, Asian Canadians have been stigmatized and shunned in schools, shopping malls, on transit, and other public places. The goals of this event are to encourage people from all cultures to discover the wonders of the Asian culture and to hopefully stop the racial stereotyping and profiling that has hurt many individuals and businesses. Power Unit wants to help promote Toronto as a place to eat, buy, and play.

The wide selection of food ranging from Thai to Japanese at prices too good to miss - most items are priced $1 to $5 - is what initially attracts people to Nite It Up, but it is the spectacular performances that make the people stay. Expect to see traditional Chinese dances, kung-fu demonstrations, and lots more. This year, one of Toronto's up and coming female Asian singers, Moulann will be performing at Nite It Up. To learn more about Moulann go to www.moulann.com and for additional information please visit http://www.thispath.com/nightmarket/

Building on last year's success with over 20,000 visitors, Nite It Up - Asian Night Market 2003 will be bigger and better than ever.
