The US EPA includes fluorescent lamps, batteries, and thermostats in the federal list of universal wastes regulated under the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA). The Universal Waste Rule governs the collection and management of these widely generated hazardous wastes. These regulations help reduce the cost and regulatory burden on generators who recycle due to streamlined regulations on accumulation, storage, transport, treatment & disposal.
In the US about 650 million lamps are disposed of annually, each containing 12-50mg of mercury, with some high intensity discharge lamps containing as much as 300mg of mercury. Current estimates within the industry identify that 25% of the annual volume is being recycled.
EnviroLights provides an environmentally responsible program for all universal wastes to communities, commercial and industrial generators, as well as government agencies. EnviroLights permitted accumulation center in Plaistow, New Hampshire facility is conveniently located just 30 minutes from Manchester and Boston. EnviroLights offers pick-up services throughout New England utilizing fully trained and permitted transporters.
