Why now? America needs a meaningful way to honor and remember our heroes who gave their lives and their passion and wisdom and humanity toward a greater cause. We need images, words, and music that will console and inspire us, and create a living legacy... to honor those who dared to make a difference. So, too, empower the living to make yet more strides. Lets reclaim our holidays and salute our heroes who set the gold standard for patriotism and the American spirit.
Poppy poem: A Canadian soldier penned the words of Flanders Fields" in 1915. By 1918 poppies became the worldwide symbol of remembrance for fallen heroes. The verse captured the irony -- that something beautiful and precious can emerge from the pain, and reminds us not to let them die in vain.
http://www.geocities.com/~worldwar1/mccrae.html an inspired account of why!
Message: There is a common thread between the images. Both convey a message of hope. The poppy poster is more serene and uplifting. It is the perfect image to remind us of Flanders Field of red poppies, vigorous and triumphant. Baers flag image was born out of the tragedy. Some see raging currents and Ground Zero. Others see stars and doves of peace. Emerging from the chaos is the eagles head, and the foundation of the American flag. (The onscreen image does not do justice to the awesome image that captures all of the emotions of that pivotal event that galvanized a nation, and the world, from that horrific day, forward.)
That is where Snyders Amazing Grace" comes in. This awe-inspiring rendition transforms it from a spiritual to a soothing mantra that helps to heal our tormented souls and psyches, reinvigorating our American spirit and resolve. Refocus and give thanks for the little things, putting life back into perspective.
Do MORE good! Proceeds from sales of prints at www.baergallery.com benefit worthy nonprofits, thanks to Dean Baers generosity and patriotism. (See SJ story link at for insights into how the print was born, and Baer's largesse.)
It is no accident that Baer and Snyder works were honored at the American Heroes of Freedom Awards on May 21st in Washington, DC.
NOTE: Baer and Snyder are available for live or phone interview, anytime. Both artists donate proceeds from their work to charity. This makes them American heroes too.
