DALLAS, TX (PRWEB) May 27, 2003 -- The Oaks Bank & Trust Company elected Fred R. Meyer to its board of directors after he served 15 years as an advisory board member.
Oaks Bank has five offices in Dallas, Duncanville and Richardson, and was founded in 1985. With assets of about $90 million, Oaks Bank is a full-service, independent community bank dedicated to providing small and medium-size businesses, entrepreneurs, and individuals with customized one-to-one banking services.
Meyer is board chairman, president and CEO of Aladdin Industries, LLC, the manufacturer of thermal insulated food and beverage products headquartered in Nashville, Tenn. Earlier in his career Meyer was president and chief operating officer of Dallas-based Tyler Technologies, Inc. (NYSE: TYL), formerly Tyler Corp.
A past chairman of the Texas Republican Party, Meyer has been active in politics for decades and held key campaign positions for President Reagan, President Bush, and President George W. Bush, who appointed him to the U.S. Naval Academy Board of Visitors.
A healthy financial institution depends on a strong, independent and attentive board, and Fred Meyer is the kind of dynamic businessman and community leader any board would be lucky to have as a member. Weve been fortunate to have his advice for several years and welcome his continued guidance and stewardship," said Max Wells, chairman of Oaks Bank & Trust.
Meyer is a director for several other companies and organizations, including Westwood Holdings Group, Inc. (NYSE: WHG); Palm Harbor Homes, Inc. (NASDAQ: PHHM); Southwest Securities Group, Inc. (NYSE: SWS); the National Center for Policy Analysis; and the International Republican Institute. He is a trustee of Austin College in Sherman, Texas, and an elder at his Presbyterian Church.
An avid marathon runner, Meyer has served as vice chairman at the Cooper Institute for Aerobics Research for more than 30 years. At age 65 he decided to become a racecar driver and was part of a five-man professional team until he retired from the sport last year.
He has a bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering from Purdue University in West Lafayette, Ind., and a masters degree in business administration from the Harvard Graduate School of Business Administration. Meyer and his wife, Barbara, have been married 49 years and have three children and five grandchildren.
