The National Book Club Conference, Inc., a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization launched in August 2002, announces its first-annual literary conference scheduled for August 1-3, 2003 in Atlanta.
A vast array of some of the most talented authors in the country will participate in the worlds largest book club meeting," including: Walter Mosley, Lalita Tademy, Omar Tyree, Ilyasah Shabazz, Nathan McCall, Terrie Williams, Bernice McFadden, Kimberla Lawson Roby, Valerie Wilson Wesley, Trisha R. Thomas and Tajuana (TJ) Butler, among others.
The N.B.C.C., which has the mission of instituting book clubs into local public schools, is creating a new literary experience that will duplicate the enjoyable points of conventional gatherings while introducing warm, fun and informative interactive aspects that make for an intimate setting for all participants from all around the country.
It is a national conference targeted specifically for book clubs, and that theme will be carried out throughout the two exciting days. In all phases, the hallmarks of book club meetings will come through: intimacy, fellowship, camaraderie, spirituality, learning, exchanging of ideas and perspective. Those are the very elements the National Book Club Conference was founded.
Additionally, members from various book clubs will make up a panel discussion entitled, "Maximizing Your Book Club Experience." The focus is to exchange concepts on how meetings are run, how to make sure each member feels she/he is an "owner" of the book club and how to incorporate contests, games, themes and the like to promote an even more fun and fulfilling book club existence.
There also will be a workshop for the reader who wants to become a writer conducted by noted editor and radio host Maxine Thompson.
The conference-closing awards dinner will be highlighted by words from the accomplished Walter Mosley and award presentation to book clubs/individuals who have been active in their respective communities and winners of the essay contest: "Why My Book Club Is Important to Me."
