Renesas Technology Corp. Selects Y Explorations for C Based IC Design Flow

Renesas Technology Corp. has selected Y Explorations's (YXI) ANSI-C to RTL synthesis tool, eXCite, along with YXI's technology for high-level and interface synthesis, for a C-based IC design flow. In addition, YXI and Renesas will jointly develop YXI's next generation C-based synthesis tool for high quality IC designs that will allow RTL synthesis from cycle-accurate or cycle-constrained behavioral input descriptions described in an ANSI-C based language.

With the new cycle-constrained, C-based synthesis flow, we expect our LSI designers, as well as our customers, to be able to use YXI's eXCite software to obtain the best architecture tradeoff and performance possible. In addition, we expect significant reductions in specification verification and design time due to the C-based design flow. This will help our LSI designers, as well as our customers, realize a greatly improved time-to-market."

Viraphol Chaiyakul, President and CEO of YXI, said "In order to bring our next generation C-based design flow into mainstream use, it must be used to successfully develop ASICs and SoC designs that demand faster speed, smaller area, and accurate cycle or timing constraints. YXI is working closely with our users and partners towards satisfying that requirement".

As part of the joint development, both parties will develop an extension to ISO/ANSI C, called HY-C, to support hardware constructs, such as cycle constraints, communication, and parallelism. The language will also support simulation and verification using equivalence and model checking technology. Multiple clock hardware design will also be supported.
