PHYSICAL CHALLENGES ~ ATTITUDE ADVANTAGES

(Fort Worth) Tim Turner, a resident of Cleburne who is physically disabled, is undertaking a personal challenge to ride his scooter from Cleburne to the State Capital. Originally confronted by a good friend who claimed that it would be impossible for him to ride his scooter from Cleburne to Waco, Tim has taken the challenge a step further and will attempt to complete a journey to Austin. The goal of Tims trip is to raise awareness and financial support for the North Central Texas Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society and its 3,500 clients. The ride is scheduled to take place over 5 days, with Tim clocking approximately 35 miles per day, at an average speed of 6 miles per hour. Tim will be making overnight stops in Hillsboro, Waco, Temple, Georgetown and finally Austin. Tims brave adventure is being arranged and supported by Mobility on Wheels, Inc. and Bruno Independent Living Aids is donating a customized scooter to assist in the journey. After the trip to Austin concludes, Tims customized scooter will be auctioned and the proceeds will be donated to the National Multiple Sclerosis Societys North Central Texas Chapter.

Tim will launch a personal battle against multiple sclerosis from June 26 -- July 4, 2003 as he crosses county lines and collects contributions from charitable friends. But for people with multiple sclerosis, their lives have been affected long before- and will be affected long after- Tims trip. That is why the National MS Society is dedicated to battling this disease every minute of every day. Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a chronic, often disabling disease that attacks the central nervous system. An estimated third of a million Americans have multiple sclerosis, with nearly 200 new cases diagnosed every week. Counting family members and those who care for people with MS, the disease impacts more than one million of our friends and neighbors. Most people with MS are diagnosed between the ages of 20 and 50, but the unpredictable physical and emotional effects last a lifetime. The National MS Society is dedicated to ending the devastating effects of multiple sclerosis.

Of the 350,000 people in the US with multiple sclerosis, the North Central Texas Chapter serves 3,500. MS is the most common disease that affects the central nervous system in young adults. The North Central Texas Chapter supports people with MS by providing information and referrals, facilitating support groups, funding research, offering therapeutic exercise and recreational activities, providing professional counseling, taking a leadership role in advocacy, loaning medical equipment, and providing financial assistance where needed.

There has never been a more promising time to intensify the attack on MS. Therefore, it is our hope that all of the communities between Cleburne and Austin, along Interstate 35, will rally behind Tim in his endeavor to raise funds and awareness for multiple sclerosis.
