Earl Woods, Father of Golf Legend Tiger Woods, to Address Local Educators and Community Organizations
San Francisco, CA (PRWEB) May 2003 -- Earl Woods, author of the best selling book Training a Tiger: A Fathers Guide to Raising a Winner in Both Golf and Life" will be the keynote speaker at Communities In Schools of San Franciscos first annual student achievement celebration titled 'A Grand Slam Celebration for Kids.
The event is hosted and sponsored by the Gap Foundation -- the charitable arm of specialty apparel retailer Gap Inc. since 1977.
Communities In Schools of San Francisco (CIS) is affiliated with Communities In Schools, Inc, the largest stay-in-school network in the nation serving over 1.5 million students in over 34 states. Worth Magazine, for the second consecutive year, has named CIS as one of the 100 top non-profits in the United States.
The 'Grand Slam Celebration awards ceremony will acknowledge the achievement of eighteen students, their parents/guardians, teachers and mentors. Students were selected based on academic performance, attendance and good behavior. Additionally, the CIS Golden Apple Award will be presented to the following community partners: Dr. Arlene Ackerman, Superintendent SFUSD; Dean Veronica Hunnicutt, Community College of San Francisco, Southeast Campus; and James Taylor, Principal of Martin Luther King Academic Middle School.
The CIS mission is to establish an after school multi-track program which will prepare and empower underperforming and underserved students, and help them to achieve academic and social success", said Kevin Burns, Regional Director of British Airways Plc and Chairman of the CIS Board of Directors.
Gap Foundation will host this event at their offices in San Francisco, 2 Folsom Street, June 2, 2003, 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
