North Plainfield, NJ (PRWEB) June 3, 2003 -- Dems.US (http://www.dems.us) announced today the first quarterly results of the 2004 Bumper Sticker (BS) Presidential Primary, Americas first chance to vote in the run for the 2004 Democratic presidential nomination.
Howard Dean has a commanding lead with nearly 27 percent of the vote after three months of balloting, with Anyone But Bush trailing in second place with just under 16 percent. Bob Graham is the only other declared candidate with polling in double digits with 14.25 percent after officially declaring on May 5.
After three months, Howard Dean has nearly double the votes of his nearest human competitor, which is a testament to his grassroots support on the Internet if not in the real world," said Nathan Rudy, the organizer of the BS Primary. It is also a measure of how little anyone else has connected with voters that only Dean and Graham have reached double digits."
Results for the first three months are at the end of the release, and current results are available at http://www.dems.us. The site began officially" counting "votes" on March 1, 2003.
Candidates in the running at the 2004 Bumper Sticker Primary receive a vote for each bumper sticker with their name purchased from the site. It is a market-based, unscientific and fun chance for people to participate in the political process.
The goal of the 2004 Bumper Sticker Primary is to engage potential Democratic primary voters in the process of selecting their nominee, and to do it in an entertaining and interactive manner.
To further that goal, in June, 2003 the site will begin a monthly essay writing contest. Each month a new subject will be chosen, and entrants will submit a 500-800 word essay on the subject. Dems.US will select the best essay submitted for each candidate to be posted on the web site and award 10 votes. No votes for a particular candidate will be cast if no quality essay is submitted.
One entry each month will be selected for a grand prize of a t-shirt, mug, BBQ apron or tote bag endorsing their candidate. The grand prize essay will be teased from the Dems.US home page.
"Politics should be fun, and we made the 2004 Bumper Sticker Primary for fun," said Rudy. "The issues we discuss are very serious, but the only way we can get the people back in the voting booth is to make it fun again."
Votes can also be cast be cast by sending in photos of advocacy or campaign efforts for posting on the site. Dems.US specifically requests photos of: bumper stickers (ours or anyone else's) on cars; groups holding a candidate's signs in a public place; a new voter being registered; and a picture with the candidate.
Votes will be added for other advocacy and campaigning efforts at the discretion of Dems.US.
Dems.US hosts a separate section for each of the nine candidates who have announced and a few extras we find interesting such as Al Gore or Hillary Clinton. Each section has breaking news, a biographical sketch, message boards, and links to comprehensive information on the Internet.
