Chabad on Campus - A Jewish student organization in St. Louis, Missouri, recently unveiled a brand-new website. Combining anciant wisdom with cutting edge technology the website is sure to be a big hit.
St. Louis - Just in time for summer, the Chabad on Campus organization, a Jewish student organization based in St. Louis, has launched a mega-interactive website. Utilizing a variety of advanced web technologies and an elegant design, "ChabadonCampus.org" (http://www.ChabadonCampus.org) provides a treasure trove of information for students. The site is dedicated to keeping students informed of upcoming events, Jewish learning and holidays. Information is also available for parents of current students, prospective students and alumni.
"With prospective students making decisions about their college careers this time of year," said Rabbi Hershey Novack, director of Chabad on Campus throughout the region. "This site will be an address for people to turn to, anytime anywhere."
The site, www.ChabadonCampus.org, was launched last month.
Also set to unveil, are sub-pages for each university campus Chabad serves. "It's very important that we don't disenfranchise students at local and regional universities by providing 'one-size-fits-all' programming. Each campus has a unique culture that mandates a different approach."
Updated daily throughout the year, the site offers a wealth of information about the programs and events of Chabad on Campus. In addition, the site has a special page dedicated to helping alumni from all over the world keep in touch with each other. "Many students have just graduated, and we want to provide a resource for them to be able to keep in touch with each other," said Rabbi Novack."
"Students today are often very tech savvy, and they are tied into their universities high-speed access," explained Rabbi Novack, "a mediocre web presence just doesn't cut it."
The St. Louis community at large is invited to visit the web site and get a feel for the types of services Chabad on Campus is providing for students. The site also has a section to sign up for email updates of Chabad on Campus' growth.
ChabadonCampus.org has several features that are indicative of the high technological skill that went into the site. One section contains streaming videos, another contains an online magazine, "Students often keep crazy hours," said Rabbi Hershey Novack. "This will be their 24-hour local source of Jewish learning, that they can return to, again and again."
Another feature offered, is the "Ask Moses" link. Rabbis are available 24/6, (all days of the week, except for the Jewish Sabbath and holidays), live, one-on-one, to answer questions on any topic. One of the guest columnists on Ask Moses is Rabbi Hershey Novack. "Students may be too distraught or intimidated to contact a Rabbi directly, the Internet is a perfect forum, anonymous yet personal at the same time."
ChabadonCampus.org is one of the many programs to be launched by the new Chabad on Campus organization, which operates under the aegis of Chabad of Greater St. Louis. Chabad on Campus is dedicated to providing Jewish resources to students throughout the Greater St. Louis, Eastern Missouri and Southern Illinois region.
