EZCOM (312.HK) Appointed Exclusive Distributor of Kejian Mobile Phones in Hong Kong and Macau

China-focused mobile telecommunications company Ezcom Holdings Limited (SEHK: 312) has been appointed by China Kejian Corporation (000035.SZ) as the exclusive distributor for Kejian branded mobile handsets in Hong Kong and Macau.

In addition to the sales rollout in Hong Kong and Macau following the debut of K308, Ezcom is also responsible for making inroads for Kejian handsets in other overseas markets.

A recent national survey on brand identity in China ranked Kejian number one in brand visibility in the country. Annual sales of Kejian handsets have topped 2.5 million units and the company has set the sales target in 2003 for 5 million units.

Ezcom is actively advancing its handset distribution business, setting sights on the huge opening in the local telecoms market for petite and high-tech handset models. K308 was launched simultaneously in China and Hong Kong. Boasting an ultra-slim design of 17.3-mm width and 69 g in weight, K308 is by far the lightest and thinnest colour-display folder handset model in Hong Kong. K308 is an artistic creation with a technological edge. The model comes in 4 colours, two of which including the feminine "Crystal Red" and edgy "Titan Silver" have been launched with the first rollout.

The new model employs the top-notch 65,536 high-resolution colour UFB (Ultra Fine and Bright) LCD with sharp colour contrasts. Also built in are 40-polyphonic ringtones, animated wallpapers, games, phonebook with 250 memory groups, and WAP and personal information management (PIM) functions.

"We are very excited about the launch of the slimmest colour-display handset in Hong Kong. Our business plan for Hong Kong envisages the introduction of three to four more new Kejian models this year," added Mr Lam.

While GSM mobile handsets continued to be the mainstay of the Group's mobile telecommunication business, parallel effort had also been spared to develop the CDMA market segment. The Group continued to work as a major distributor of premium Samsung GSM handset models for Samsung Electronics, the world's third largest manufacturer of mobile phones and the largest manufacturer of CDMA mobile handsets. It was also awarded distribution rights to the KejianoSamsung co-branded line, developed jointly by Samsung and China Kejian to combine the world's foremost mobile technology and innovations with manufacturing capabilities of China Kejian. In the first nine months of the fiscal year to January 2003, the Group supplied about 400,000 GSM and 300,000 CDMA handsets in China, as well as components for 1.5 million units of Kejian handsets.
