I would like to introduce a new web site for 40 & 8 Voiture Locale 1540 in Midwest City, Oklahoma. http://www.vt1540.org We support the men of Tinker Air Force Base and all our troops around the globe. I myself as many of us have a relative now in Iraq trying to help the people of Iraq and as you can tell it is not an easy job. It is more difficult due to cultural and religious differences and our understanding will be key to the effort.
We created this web site to help the public understand who and what we are and what we stand for. Today we are most active in raising funds to support the children and families of our new POW's, MIA's and KIA troops. As you know the government insurance and other financial needs of these families is not a great amount nor does it last forever. Do to this fact we at Voiture 1540 have created a new way to raise funds for these families. We are selling a computer software
product for the entire family. THE MEDIA CATALOGER

What is the Forty et Eight
Our organization La Societe des Quarante Hommes at Huit Chevaux, is an indepedent fraternal organization of veterans, popularly known as the FORTY & EIGHT, was organized in 1920 by American Legionnaires as a fun and honor society. Now composed of veterans of both World Wars and the Korean, Vietnam and Desert Storm conflicts. It draws its origin from World War I when young Americans were sent to France to fight a war to end all wars. The narrow gauge railroads of france had boxcars (Voitures) that carried little more than half the capacity of American boxcars and these voitures were used to tranport the men and horses to and from the fighting fronts. On the side of these little boxcars was stenciled the capacity of each, holding either forty men or eight horses, and these voitures became the trademark of our organization. If one could laugh at the train ride from the coast of france to the trenches crowded in these little boxcars only recently vacated by eight horses, one could surely adapt to the changes in his life when he returned home. Membership in the Forty & Eight is by invitation only for recognition of service to the American Legion and/or its programs.
Our FORTY & EIGHT Mission
Our mission is to support the Children and family's of veterans that have served our country in passed conflicts and to assist those that are in need. In providing assistance the members of the forty & eight have come together to sponsor may activities and fund raisers. Some of the activities which are supported include Youth Sports, Nurses Training, and The Carville Star. The fund raising activities include Local Craft Shows, Social Events, the George B. Boland Nurses Training Scholarship Trust Fund, the Charles W. Ardery Memorial Child Welfare Trust Fund, The National Box Car Association, The POW/MIA Program, and Veterans Affairs Voluntary Service.
