MAN AND HORSE ATTEMPT THE FIRST CROSS-COUNTRY JOURNEY ON THE AMERICAN DISCOVERY TRAIL

Details of trip to be posted on a Web-based journal

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (PRWEB) June 3, 2003 -- Matt Parker, world-class traveler, left Friday on his Tennessee Walking horse, Smokey, to begin his five month journey, cross-country along the American Discovery Trail (ADT). If he succeeds, Matt will be the first to travel across the United States on the ADT on a horse.

The two will travel the entire length of the trail, which spans from California to Delaware, stretching over 6,800 miles and crossing 15 states, and is the only coast-to-coast, non-motorized recreational trail.

The American Discovery Trail wishes Matt success," said Dick Bratton, Vice President of Public Relations, for the ADT. He would be the first person ever to cross the nation on horseback along the ADT. In addition, Matts journey will bring more attention to one of our national treasures, and inspire more people to explore some of the most spectacular back country pack trails in North America."

The nationwide trail, which runs through cities, townships, forests, mountains and deserts, connects five national scenic trails, 10 historic and 23 national recreational trails. It leads to 14 national parks and 16 national forests.

The 23-year-old adventurer said he is attempting this ride simply because it would be something very epic to do, something that few would want to do and even fewer could accomplish."

Details of this record journey will be posted on Matt and Smokeys Web log at http://mattandsmokey.blogspot.com.
