Vancouver, BC - The long-awaited directorial debut from award-winning filmmaker Jeffery Scott Lando has arrived, with the private screening of his feature film, "Savage Island", at the Blinding Light Theatre, Monday, June 2, 2003.
This dark, suspenseful thriller will have you gripping the sides of your seat. An isolated island is the setting for the prefect vacation get-away and has caught the eye of international property developer, Keith Young (Don S. Davis). With the completion of the island's first holiday home, a family get-together is set. Mr. Young and his wife, Beth (Beverley Breuer) invite son Peter (Brendan Beiser), daughter Julia (Kristina Copeland), son-in-law Steven Harris (Steven Man) and grandson, Alex (Matthew Turner) for the weekend.
Arriving on the crest of a storm, the Harris' make their way to the island. However, the journey is far from over and the drive to the mansion makes the stormy seas seem effortless. As their truck plows ahead on the roughly hewn road, something runs across their path,
though too late for them to react. Stopping the truck, Steven and Peter get out to assess the damage. Blood on the bumper, yet no sign of the creature, save broken, bloodstained branches trailing off into the woods.
After a warm welcome, the family enjoys a hearty meal together. Meanwhile a small, innocent, blood drenched child, Jimmy Savage (Kyle Sawyer) lies dying, alone, in the woods. As the night wears on, the thin veneer of happiness dissipates and the Young house quickly fills
with tension: a disintegrating marriage coupled with an insatiable thirst for wealth and power. All is shattered when unexpected visitors arrive- Eliah and Mary Savage (Winston Rekert, Lindsay Jameson)-- and the Youngs discover they are not the only ones on this allegedly deserted island. The Savage's have come seeking their own brand of justice.
Shot on location on Bowen Island and in the Greater Vancouver regional district, Lando's Savage Island" is a masterpiece of deception, betrayal and suspense. When no rules rule, man reverts to his savage nature and it's the survival of the fittest.
Lando is keeping Savage Island" tightly under wraps until its official premiere, which he is hoping will be the Toronto Film Festival this September.
