The New Jersey Gay Calendar of Events Joins Out in Jersey Magazine to Present Complete Coverage of New Jersey Gay Events
TRENTON-Local gay journalists Peter Frycki and Tobias Grace announced today that The New Jersey Gay Calendar of Events, managed by Dennis C. McGrath, will become the source for Out in Jersey's extensive listing of New Jersey GLBTI events.
Out in Jersey President and General Manager Frycki and Managing Editor Grace invite everyone to visit http://calendar.yahoo.com/denniscmcgrath to experience the ease of use, completeness and accuracy of this community resource. As soon as technology permits, the existing calendar will be migrated onto Out in Jersey's website, the added.
The New Jersey Gay Calendar of Events list-serv group, which sends out e-mails promoting New Jersey gay events, can be joined by sending an e-mail to

Mr. McGrath maintains both services on a completely voluntary basis, at his own expense. The New Jersey Gay Calendar of Events does not sell advertising, nor is it a "free" component to attract business to other parts of a commercial web business, Mr. McGrath states. The information presented is available to all to republish as they see fit, as long as the integrity of the information is maintained and its originators are in no way disrespected.
"The New Jersey Gay Calendar of Events actively seeks input from as many New Jersey gay organizations as I can identify," said Mr. McGrath. "I correspond with the organizations directly; I visit their web sites; I frequently join them as a member to ensure continued receipt of up-to-date information; and I revise and add to the listings every day."
"Out in Jersey Magazine recognized the execellence of this effort and asked me to contribute to their fine publication in the form of their "Diverting Diversions" section, which I was most pleased and flattered to do," he added.
"I don't always get it right, but I can make corrections in near real time, so if you catch me in an error, send me an e-mail and let me know," he adds.
Diverting Diversions has been Mr. McGrath's key contribution to the magazine since its inception close to a year ago, though he has also written newsbriefs and other features, drawing on his considerable background as a journalist, public relations writer, and marketing communicator.
Out in Jersey now distributes more than 6,000 copies six times a year through its network of more than 140 distribution points throughout New jersey, Philadephia and New York City, and both the distribution numbers and outlets grow with every issue. More than 2,000 copies alone were distributed during the recent 12th Annual Gay Pride parade and Festival in Asbury Park, meaning that as many as 2 out of 3 attendees took a copy of "Out in Jersey" home with them.
More than 100 advertisers to date have made Out in Jersey part of their media buying budget, representing businesses as international in scope as Bristol-Myers-Squibb and as local as The Gilded Lily Florist of Flemington, NJ. Professional services, restaurants, realtors, doctors, artists, antiques dealers, nightclubs, furniture retailers, vacation destinations, medical services providers, construction firms, magic supply shoppes, and more: all have found in Out in Jersey a home for showcasing their goods and services.
Our readers are finding 'Out in Jersey to be interesting, entertaining, informative, and meaningful to their lives," Grace said. We are reaching members of the gay community in New Jersey who care about themselves and about others, who are interested in more than just visual content, and that are looking to discover just what makes New Jersey such a great place to be gay."
I believe the growth of Out in Jersey is because of the gay support in the community, plus the desire for a more powerful media voice for gay people in this state," Frycki said. Out in Jersey is committed to news coverage of this entire community, committed to providing timely information of lasting value, and committed to providing businesses with a targeted audience to reach the gay community here in New Jersey."
The February/March 2004 "Domestic Partnership" issue of Out in Jersey features articles on the recent developments in gay rights advocacy in New Jersey, as well as an interview with a couple of 43 years duration; and an incredible list of the state's best, worst, and most wishy-washy elected officials.
Recent editions included ongoing coverage of the same-sex marriage initiative and domestic partnership legislation before New Jerseys judges and legislature; and articles on New Jerseys thriving leather community; visiting alt-rocker Ani DiFranco; controversial AIDS treatment regimens; the plight of gay families of victims of September 11th, 2001; and coverage of Capital Rainbowfest, the first-ever state-wide LGBTI celebration to be held in Trenton.
Contributing columnists exclusive to 'Out in Jersey include noted gay pagan philosopher Leon Calafiore, local film critic and AIDS journalist Mario Brescio, long-time activist Gary Pfeffer on coming-out issues, the Rev. Athena A. Gassoumis on gay religious issues, Tomaso Magliaccio on gay spirituality, and Robert Laczko on gay theory and history.
Regular features include an indispensable calendar of statewide LGBTI events, newsbriefs from around the state and around the world, original and syndicated editorial cartoons and comics, crosswords, horoscopes and advice columns both real and facetious.
Out in Jersey also carries a variety of well-known syndicated reporters and columnists, including Paula Martinacs Lesbian Notions," Liz Highleymans Past Out" gay history series, and award-winning author Perry Brass on queer culture.
Rivendell Marketing supports "Out in Jersey with ad sales on a national level, and can be reached at 908-232-2021.
Readers and advertisers alike agree: Out in Jersey has earned a place on their coffee tables, and in their advertising budgets, Frycki said.
The New Jersey gay community has been given little notice by the larger publications in Philadelphia and New York," Frycki commented. With each issue of Out in Jersey, the community continues to show its support of a quality publication that provides informative news coverage as well as local opinion pieces tailored specifically for the savvy gay reader."
The core of this enterprise is formed by a veteran team who are deeply committed to the community's long-term social and political goals," Frycki said. Our aim is to raise New Jerseys gay press to the next level by creating a magazine of record that thoroughly documents the events, cultural trends and personalities shaping--and being shaped by-New Jerseys large and dynamic lesbian and gay community."
Our ultimate goal is to create a product that is relevant and available to everyone in the LGBTI community," Grace added. We aim to be a united voice for a diverse community."
