Zend Helps Advance PHP in the Education Community by offering Free Copies of Zend Studio and Discounted Pricing on all Zend Products

Program Promotes Synergy Between Open Source Community, PHP Scripting Language, Students and Educators

Ramat Gan, Israel, June 2 - (http://www.zend.com) Zend Technologies Ltd., the designers of PHP and the leading provider of solutions to Develop, Protect and Scale enterprise PHP applications, today unveiled a comprehensive program to promote PHP usage and instruction in universities and other academic institutions. Zend is offering free copies of (http://www.zend.com/store/products/zend-studio.php) Zend Studio, the best selling PHP development environment, to institutions that teach PHP on campus. In addition Zend is offering 25% discount on all Zend products, including Zend's leading performance management software, (http://www.zend.com/store/products/zend-performance-suite.php)Zend Performance Suite, to those using PHP to operate their IT infrastructure.

PHP has quickly become an integral technology found on campuses worldwide due to the synergy of open-source technologies and academia. Universities such as Texas A&M University, University of Hawaii, University of Pittsburgh, George Washington University and others, have adopted PHP and Zend Studio to teach computer science and scripting classes.

In addition to teaching PHP scripting as an academic subject, many universities use PHP to develop and maintain their Web sites and Web email infrastructure. PHP-based webmail has been deployed by hundreds of universities, supporting millions of students and faculty worldwide. Zend Performance Suite has already proven its ability to increase Web site and webmail performance and reduce hardware requirements.

"We chose PHP because it's user friendly and not intimidating -- an important consideration, since we're teaching an introduction to the most basic concepts of programming," commented Michael Mattmiller, Enrichment Instructor at the George Washington University Summer Tour. "We wanted to use a straightforward language with a great deal of built-in functionality, that enables students to begin building programs and seeing results without a huge learning curve."

Mattmiller continued, "Having students use Zend Studio to facilitate the code development process will be a huge benefit, simplifying the code writing and debugging process. The built-in function reference, syntax coloring and debugging tools are going to greatly enhance the students' understanding of what is taking place behind the scenes."

"We are thrilled to be giving back to the academic community," said Zeev Suraski, Co-Designer of PHP, and Co-Founder and CTO of Zend Technologies. "There is a great deal of synergy between academic institutions, the open source software movement, and Zend. Our common goals are to accelerate the pace of php adoption, and create innovative, new software technology by working jointly in an open and collaborative environment. Putting Zend products into the hands of educators and future developers will help drive this progression."
