Free Martha Stewart -- The Woman We Love to Hate Is a Little Minnow in a Pond Full of Sharks
"Martha Stewart is more a victim of her own inflated ego and narcissism, and with her possible indictment today resulting from her controversial sale of ImClone stock, Stewart will join the club of superstar prosecutions, which initially make a big splash but result in much less substance," according to media commentator and psychologist Robert R. Butterworth, Ph.D.
"Sounds like another tee-shirt is in order that says, 'Free Martha.' Remembering the high-profile trials of Winona Ryder and Pee Wee Herman -- they had their 'free' Winona and Pee Wee shirts as well. Little fish with high profiles make good press!" Butterworth says.
Butterworth says regardless of the outcome of the case, Stewart's image will be next to impossible to repair: "Someone as high-profile as Stewart would be expected to tell her side of the story, and she has not really done that, resulting in the perception that she is guilty. In addition, one wonders about her emotional state; my feeling is she's depressed. If she's not depressed something's wrong, but all the Prozac in the world isn't going to help this."
Psychologist and media commentator Robert R.
