DJ ROB WEGNER TAKES HIS ART FROM THE CLUBROOM TO THE CLASS ROOM AT SCOTTSDALE COMMUNITY COLLEGE

Famed Club DJ Offers First of Its Kind Course on How To Make It As A DJ In The Clubs And On The Scene

SCOTTSDALE, AZ (June 02 --, 2003)--- "Call him Professor Wegner please" is what some of the people around the Scottsdale Community College campus are saying. Rob Wegner has been spinning his art in clubs for the past 21 years and is now teaching the next generation of DJs and amateur DJs how to turn their love of music and mixing into an art and a living. The notion of DJ classes is not new, private businesses (such as record stores, drink companies, etc.) have offered lessons in the past. However, this class is new in the sense that its seeking to create a formal "Club DJ" class in an accredited academic institution. Not only does an instructor need a Masters degree or higher to teach at the college level, the instructor must follow certain academic standards that are regulated by state and national collegiate authorities. This is not so in many situations with lessons provided by a private sector business.

The Club DJ class is also institutionalizing the DJ profession within the academic community. This has a sense of permanence. Club DJ is not a fad "current events" class because it will launch a series of classes that will hopefully lead to an Associates degree for DJs. We are about to launch
a second class in the Fall 2003 entitled "Advanced Club DJ 201", and there are plans to create a Certificate of Completion for a series of DJ Classes.

"Ive recruited DJ Radar - who was rated 9th best turntablist by Spin Magazine in 1999 - to teach the class. Turntablism, which is commonly associated with scratching records, is a unique field within the DJ profession. My goal is to eventually add four additional "specialized" classes so that we can establish a world-class club DJ program. I do not believe that we should wait for Harvard or Yale to initiate these types of classes - until they eventually trickle down to the community colleges" said Rob Wegner in a recent interview."

Just as any music department or conservatory would prepare musicians for their performing future, Rob Wegner put together a syllabus for his course that will give the newcomer or beginning professional DJ the planning skills and club techniques that will put them at the top of their game. Like most DJ's Rob keeps a busy schedule while he is not in class teaching. In addition to being the new "Prof" on campus, Rob is the resident mix-show DJ on Phoenix Energy KNRJ (101.1 FM) radio, as well as a resident DJ at Barcelona nightclub in Chandler, which was selected as Phoenix's Best Dance Club 2002 by Phoenix
Magazine. He also is the host and Executive Editor of www.discjockey101.com (a website devoted to
providing free DJ tips), which he launched in 2000. Disc Jockey 101 currently generates approximately 500 unique visitors per day and is growing rapidly with interest from a new generation of DJ's.
