CHICAGO, IL (PRWEB) June 9, 2003 -- Originally penned for an English assignment The Things I Could Tell You! (Macro Publishing Group) became an amazing and intriguing novel for J.L. Woodson. The book follows the tale of Cameron Spears, a Chicago teen growing up in a home filled with secrets and domestic violence. After changing identities and moving to Memphis, the past comes back to haunt him-forcing Cameron to make a deadly choice that changes his life forever.
When asked to create a horror story for an assignment, all other classmates wrote about blood, guts and gore, J. L. Woodson, an Olive-Harvey Middle College scholar, imagined the most horrible thing for him: being forced to hurt one parent to protect the other. Acquiring Susan Mary Malone and Christine Meister as his personal editors, he added adding entries from a journal he had kept through the years developing The Things I Could Tell You!" into a complete literary work. The story immediately caught the attention of Avalon Betts-Gaston, Esq. a literary agent, the novel was released on January, 2003 with a book signing at Borders Books and Cafe in Beverly, where more than 700 people were in attendance.
A native of Chicago, Woodson is also the co-author of We Didnt Come Here to Play: How to Win the Publishing Game (Macro Publishing Group), with Dr. Trevy A. McDonald, Naleighna Kai and Avalon Betts-Gaston, Esq. He is currently a staff writer with Melanin Magazine, and is working on two new novels, Secret of the Streets and Superwomans Child: Son of a Single Mother.
A past participant of the University of Chicago's Pilot Enrichment Program, Woodson is founder of Brilliant and Motivated Wordsmiths (BriMo), a support group for teen writers. The talented author has spoken at several Chicago Public Schools, the Illinois Bureau of Unemployment Insurance, Pullman Bank, and was a panelist for V103's Expo for Today's Black Woman-Write Stuff Seminar. He is the youngest member of The Pen and The Sword Black Authors Network; a writers' collective whose members include several local and national bestselling authors. He was the winner of the American Karate Association's Top Competitor award for Sparring and Forms in 1998. He also finds time to play the alto and tenor saxophones, and modeling.
Macro Publishing Group is an independent Chicago-based publishing company which currently has twenty authors, eight titles in print, and four others set to be released this year.
