Citypublife has launched an exciting new phase to its unique pub/bar portal, which is dedicated to promoting music, events, food, artists and facilities for pubs and bars in London which now includes menus, wine lists, extra photos, pub/bar website links, jobs offered/wanted suppliers/services, message board and more.

In addition to finding what, where and when, people sitting at their computer can now get a clear idea of the type, style, feel, facilities and food of the place they are considering visiting.

Also very popular, are the bespoke HTML Newsletters sent out on behalf of pubs/bars. The 3,000 + subscribers to the Newsletters include pub/bar users from all walks of life, MPs, businessmen, civil servants, editors, etc. who are regularly kept up to date with a variety of information about their chosen pub/bar and others in their area, including upcoming events, special offers, menu changes etc. Its an excellent way for the publican or pubco to keep in touch with their customers and give them a reason to come back, in addition to communicating their offering to newcomers.

Perry Mayer, Co-owner says, Citypublife has only two core functions, the first is to help the public find what they want with regards London pubs and bars. The second is to help the publican let the public know what he/she has to offer. It is how we do it, the tools we utilize and the pricing strategy that makes us unique." He added. We have definitely driven business into subscribing pubs/bars and successes have been recognized as early as the first week of a pub/bar subscribing".

The purpose of the portal is to inform 'new potential visitors of what a pub/bar offers, where it is and how to find it, fast and easy and, to keep existing visitors informed of upcoming events, changes etc. The Newsletter is utilised to keep existing visitors returning to the pub/bar and forward the information to friends and work colleagues. Each pub/bar pays 10 per month for each service, therefore, Citypublife work for the benefit of publicans and not advertisers.

Statistics are also available for publicans and pubcos to check success rates of their inclusion from both portal and Newsletters, including. ROI calculations for the portal. Other statistics show that around 10,000 people a week search Google.com for information about pubs/bars in London and many thousands more look on other search engines; in addition, the 247 subscribing pubs/bars on citypublife have been featured over 700,000 in searches since August 2002. (as at June 9th 2003).

Wizard Inns subscribed 7 of their pubs/bars to both the portal and Newsletter services in February 2003. Area Manager Paul Marsh said that the "early results seem promising." As did Chris Scholey, MD, The Pocket Pub Company, who was so impressed by early results that he has asked Citypublife to put together a business strategy to redevelop their own existing web presence.

Perry and his partner Linda Langfrey visit every subscribing pub/bar personally, take the photos, write the menus, develop the site and build relationships with all of their subscribing publicans. Linda added, The days of opening your doors and expecting a flood of visitors to walk in are over. Publicans need to become more aware, act like a business owner and, take advantage of the power and popularity of the Internet to drive their business forward. It is the least expensive method by which they can communicate their offering to a mass audience and probably the one that gives the highest Return On Investment."
