Easy to install and use, the new 802.11b-compliant SMC2671W EZ Connect 2.4GHz Wireless Ethernet Adapter is Plug and Play compliant and works without drivers, so theres no software to install. Use the included EZ Installation Wizard, or simply plug it in to connect instantly to an existing network. It is able to communicate in Ad Hoc mode (peer-to-peer) with any other 802.11b wireless client; or in Infrastructure mode, where the adapter connects via an Access Point for communication to a wired network. Where security is an issue, advanced setup via an easy-to-use configuration utility -- either via the Web Browser or on a Windows PC -- lets users configure its 64-bit or 128-bit WEP encryption, Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA) and MAC address filtering, as well as disable SSID broadcast. To maximize performance, the EZ Connect Wireless Ethernet Adapter features auto fallback at 11, 5.5, 2, and 1 Mbps so that connections hold in noisy environments or across a larger wireless operating range.

The multi-mode SMC2671W can also be used as a Wireless Range Extender for the Barricade 2.4GHz Wireless Cable/DSL Broadband Router (SMC7004VWBR), and as a Wireless Access Point. When configured in the Range Extender mode, the SMC2671W extends the coverage area of the wireless network. It forwards the wireless signal between wireless clients and a Wireless Router that is connected to the wired network to extend the range of the existing wireless network and overcome obstacles that block wireless signals such as walls and doors.
