INTRODUCING LIQUID MACHINES 1.0

First Security Solution to Automatically Create, Enforce and Monitor Security Policies on Data,
Enabling Companies to Easily Protect Vital Information and Meet New Compliance Standards

Lexington, Mass. (PRWEB) June 9, 2003 - Liquid Machines today unveiled a revolutionary new data security solution that stops the data leakage problem and enables large companies to demonstrate compliance with a landslide of new federal regulations that require strict data controls and monitoring.

Previewed earlier this year at DEMO, a prominent showcase for groundbreaking technologies, Liquid Machines 1.0 is the first solution that allows enterprises to automatically create, enforce and monitor security policies placed upon data-no matter where that data resides. Liquid Machines allows companies to define a consistent security policy for data that travels across all applications without affecting the way the applications are used. As data moves to and from the enterprise and between multiple users and applications, Liquid Machines acts like a private security guard, traveling with data to enforce policies and meet new levels of compliance and integrity for valuable corporate information.

According to AMR Research, companies will spend up to $2.5 billion on information technology (IT) and application infrastructures just for Sarbanes-Oxley Act compliance this year. This is just the tip of the compliance iceberg that lies ahead for organizations also struggling with NASD 2711, HIPAA and California SB 1386, which on July 1, 2003 requires all businesses maintaining data on California residents to inform individuals of any security breaches that result in their personal information being stolen.

Data and intellectual property leakage already costs organizations billions of dollars annually," said Jim Schoonmaker, president and chief executive officer of Liquid Machines. And now, data control and monitoring is a lynchpin for a new wave of legislative initiatives and company controls. Unfortunately, organizations do not have the resources for massive, enterprise-wide application upgrades, and, until our products introduction, no single security solution has handled the intersection of compliance and data security. By bringing security down to the data level, Liquid Machines becomes the first security solution to automate security enforcement and compliance, without disrupting the way users work or requiring a forklift upgrade to all major applications. Liquid Machines automates many security tasks to dramatically reduce the costs of stopping information leakage and compliance."

Continually Protects Data and Enforces Established Policies

Liquid Machines leverages a unique combination of rights and identity management, encryption and next-generation monitoring tools to add and enforce security policies on data. It features:

-     Auto Integration with existing applications, directory and authentication mechanisms. Unlike other application-specific security solutions, this lets enterprises install Liquid Machines consistently and quickly, without any modifications or upgrades to existing applications, including custom applications.

-   Trusted Security Agents that act like private security guards, traveling with data and documents to enforce policies. These trusted security agents remain with data regardless of where data goes, enforcing policies, and allowing or preventing common actions-like reading, modifying, copying and printing information-according to a users privileges.

-   Policy Droplet control that enables business users to intuitively assign security policies to data quickly and easily within popular desktop applications, such as Microsoft Office, Visio, Microsoft Project, Documentums eRoom, SolidWorks and Adobe Acrobat.

-   Customized Logging and Reporting capabilities that help companies demonstrate compliance and satisfy auditing and reporting requirements.

To date, rights management applications have most often focused on controlling access to finished media products by consumers," said Ray Wagner, research director, Gartner, Inc. It is becoming increasingly clear, however, that rights management can play a significant role in large enterprises, allowing organizations to stem the tide of IP theft and sensitive data loss that may threaten, for example, to undermine legal compliance efforts or competitive position. Currently there exists a functionality gap between the capabilities of enterprise rights management products, many of which have a consumer-focused approach, and the true needs of enterprises. A viable solution must address the problem of data security from the moment it is created throughout its lifecycle as intellectual property, without impacting the workflow and business process currently in place within the enterprise."

Pricing and Availability

Liquid Machines 1.0 is currently in beta at several large organizations and will be generally available in July 2003. Pricing is based on the number of named users and starts at $50,000 for workgroup deployments.
