Beach Cities Robotics to Teach Summer Robotics Day Camps

The award winning Beach Cities Robotics Team 294 www.bcrobotics.org announces they will be offering two robotics summer daycamps -- a Junior Robotics Camp featuring Lego Mindstorm for ages 9-12 July 7th to July 18th Mon-Fri 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. and an Advanced Robotics Camp featuring EduRobots for ages 11-15 (ages 9-10 can attend only if they attend the Junior Camp) July 21st to August 1st Mon-Fri 1:00 to 5:00 p.m.

Course topics include robot construction, teamwork, programming, and problem solving. There will be a one hour presentation by Northrop Robotics Engineer, Dr. Richard Wagner. The classes will be taught by team members and mentors as a fundraiser at the Redondo Union High School Robotics Shop (formerly the AutoShop). The $300 price per child for each two week camp is a donation to Beach Cities Robotics via Redondo Beach Ed. Foundation, a 501C3 Non-Profit. Tax ID: 33-0470935. Call 310-944-9334 for more details. Only 40 spots are available for each camp on a first come, first serve basis. A "wait-list" will be started in case of dropouts.

Beach Cities Robotics Team 294 is made up of two rival schools, MCHS and RUHS, combined to compete regionally and nationally together in FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology www.usfirst.org).

The team was awarded the second highest honor bestowed on a team at a regional competition, the Engineering Inspiration Award. This award celebrates a teams' outstanding success in advancing respect and appreciation for engineering and engineers, both within their schools and as well as their community. They have reached out to their community through a weekly open house that has been so successful; it was listed on AOL's Digital Cities as one of the best places to go to in LA during that weekend. They are showing thousands of people how exciting engineering can be, seeding the crop of future engineers.
