POLKA 'TIL YOU DROP IN BATAVIA

Batavia, NY (PRWEB) May 22, 2003 -- The Batavia Concert Band will break from its usual repertoire for a Polka Fest during its Wednesday, July 9th concert in Centennial Park, Batavia. Well-known throughout the region for its free, family-friendly concerts, the Batavia Concert Band will turn up the volume during the 2003 summer concert season with themed concerts and activities. The July 9th program features polka music arranged for concert band, scrumptious Polish treats for indulging and a dance area to work them off. Impromptu lessons may be available. This concert is sponsored by the Polish Falcons Nest No 493 of 123 S Swan St in Batavia.

The Band's musical repertoire is wide-ranging in origin, style and period. In a typical concert, audiences are likely to hear a mix of Sousa-style marches, Broadway show tunes, big-band numbers from the 30's and 40's, favorites from hit musicals, excerpts from movie soundtracks, pop, jazz and even rock numbers arranged for band, and everything in between. Wednesday evening concerts in Centennial Park begin at 7:00 and are free to the public of all ages. Note that the band has moved to the south side of the park this year. In the event of rain, concerts are held in the Genesee Country Mall on Main Street in Batavia. Bring the family, a blanket or lawn chairs, and enjoy.

Founded in 1924, the Batavia Concert Band has brought musical pleasure to the Western New York region every year except during WWII. The Band consists of 40 to 50 brass, woodwind and percussion players ranging from advanced high school musicians to 50-year veterans. The Band currently enjoys financial support from the Genesee-Orleans Regional Arts Council, the City of Batavia, sponsoring organizations, individual donors and program advertisers. The Batavia Concert Band -- "We play in the park."
