Kosovo Roma Refugees Protest in Macedonian/Greek Border Camp
Approximately 700 Kosovo Roma refugees have been encamped on the Macedonia border with Greece where they are trying to get asylum after getting kicked out of their Macedonian refugee camps a month ago. Children, pregnant women and the elderly in hot and miserable conditions are receiving only a bare minimum of water and food aid, and Macedonian police have started preventing independent aid workers from delivering supplies to the refugees.
Approximately 700 Kosovo Roma refugees have been encamped on the Greek border where they are trying to get asylum after getting kicked out of their Macedonian refugee camps almost a month ago.
Children, pregnant women and the elderly in hot and miserable conditions are receiving only a bare minimum of water and food aid, and Macedonian police have started preventing independent aid workers from delivering supplies to the refugees.
The refugees have petitioned the European Commission and the European Union.
On May 18th, the refugees were kicked out of their refugee camps in Macedonia, where they have been forced to live since the Kosovo war in 1999. The refugees were told to go back to Kosovo, though is impossible, as they were in the camps in the first place because their homes were either destroyed or occupied by Kosovo Albanians years ago.
