Upstate Citizens for Equality calls for the National Indian Gaming Commission to act on illegal Class III gaming in New York.

A recent decision by the New York Court of Appeals declared that all compacts regarding Class III gaming must be approved by the legislature and declared one compact illegal. Upstate Citizens for Equality is calling upon the NIGC to enforce the laws charged to it and close all Class III gaming venues that do not have the required legislative approval.

In a letter sent to Commissioner Philip N. Hogen, United States Attorney Glen T. Suddaby, and Acting Assistant Secretary Arene M. Martin, Upstate Citizens for Equality has called upon these officials representing the NIGC, United States Department of Justice and the Bureau of Indian Affairs, respectively to put an end to all illegal Class III gaming in the State of New York. Currently there is only one Class III gaming location (Seneca Niagara Casino located in Niagara Falls) that is legal under this ruling.
