From his Venice opening of Burning Universe Orensanz continues his artistic journey to St. petersbourg

" ANGEL ORENSANZ: A BURNING UNIVERSE "
12 June- 30 November, 2003
http://orensanzvenice.com

INAUGURATION COCKTAIl 13 June at 12.00 Palazzo Malipiero (ground floor), S. Marco 3021, Venice (Boat station S. Samuele, vaporetto n. 82 front Palazzo Grassi) Opening hours 10-00-18.00, Closed on Mondays

A Venice centered program of exhibitions, performances and interventions will bring the artistic discourse of Angel Orensanz to world attention this Summer and Fall. The focus of this presence will be a six month retrospective of his work "Burning Imageries" at Palazzo Malipiero (June 12 through November 30), and a major steel sculpture temporary installation in Lido: "Homage to Luis Bunuel" that will be part of the OPEN 2003 (August 27 to October 5).

These two events are presented under the auspices of Arte/Communications. Then, Orensanz will have two participations
contemporary with the 50th Biennale of Venice through the International' Artists Museum: "The Itinerant Library"; and
his "Digital Diaries" at the Telecom Future Center. There will be as well two open air sculpture presences at Campo San Maurizio and Campo San Samuele.

Over the last three decades Orensanz has developed one of the most personal and creative bodies of work in sculpture, works on paper, video, performance and photography. Orensanz, a Spanish born and New York permanently based artist, develops an intense transnational approach to the production and presentation of his work: from Berlin to Paris, Tokyo to Florence, Central Park to Red Square, Buenos Aires, Barcelona and Dusseldorf ."He provides a frame of deconstruction that resides within the permanent as both a temporal incursion and an aesthetic dissembling that alters not so much the
original but its perception" comments American art essayist Carlo
McCormick.

Orensanz brings to the Venice already art saturated season an all encompassing rapport between object and gesture, concept and environment, and an unparalleled freshness and energy. He is the subject of some ten monographs by Pierre Restany, Thomas McEvilley, John Spike, Donald Kuspit, Calvin Reed, Elmar Zorn and many others. Venice lends a very congenial setting to Orensanz's work. He works all his projects from one of the most beautiful buildings in New
York, that houses a foundation that carries his name and that is a strong reference in Manhattan's cultural landscape.

ANGEL ORENSANZ ENDS HIS WORLD ART JOURNEY IN ST. PETERSBURG
On June 18, Angel Orensanz, an international sculptor and artist, will arrive in St. Petersburg, Russia, to culminate a five year world art intervention. Angel Orensanz, Spanish born and New York based artist, has been invited by the Presidential Cultural Committee and the avant-garde association Mitiki to bring his art to the "White Nights Art Festival of St. Petersburg", a major event of the celebrations of the III centenary of the founding of the City. In a
recent presentation in Paris, Angel Orensanz declared: "I have accepted this invitation to end my personal world pilgrimage in St. Petersburg because this city represents the convergence of distanced cultures: the old Russia and post renaissance Europe and the opening of new values and possibilities to people".

The participation of Angel Orensanz will consist of two interventions with his sphere at the Square of the Arts in front of the National Russian Museum and at the Peter and Paul Fortress, and a video presentation of his world art travels at the Art Lectorium for the media, the artists and the art lovers, all on June 18th, 2003.

For the last five years Angel Orensanz has moved his transparent art piece, endowed with certain Aristotelian metaphysics, from Venice to Tokyo, from New York to Berlin, from Paris to Florence proclaiming a world of unity and harmony. Angel Orensanz travels in this instance directly from Venice to St. Petersburg. Several writers have pointed
to the similarities between Angel Orensanz and the Russian mystical painter Nicholas Roerich For their common emphasis of art as a unifying world force.

Angel Orensanz is opning in Venice a six month retrospective of his work at Palazzo Malipiero and other numerous video, installation and performance interventions. The show to be presented at the Art Lectorium of St. Petersburg carries imageries loaded with the loftiness of Wagner and the transcendence of Gustav Mahler.
