ASBURY PARK (PRWEB) June 18, 2003 -- Asbury Park's rock and roll history comes alive in a new book by Gary Wien called Beyond The Palace. The author will have the first public signing of his book at Antic Hay Books on Sunday, July 6th at 2pm. A drawing for a pair of tickets to see Bruce Springsteen at Giants Stadium later in July will be held at the bookstore.

Afterwards, a book release party will be held at Harry's Roadhouse just up the road. The show will feature four up-and-coming bands from the area: Josh Zandman Trio, Ropetree, Bugg and Steel Pier Sinners.

Long recognized as one of America's best-known rock and roll music scenes, Asbury Park finally has its whole story told in Beyond The Palace. The struggling city along the Jersey Shore is best known as the place where artists like Bruce Springsteen, Southside Johnny and Jon Bon Jovi got their start, but its legacy goes much farther.

Beyond The Palace takes you on a ride through the city's long and illustrious music history; from the Upstage Club where musicians like Bruce Springsteen, Billy Chinnock, David Sancious and Southside Johnny used to jam all night to early clubs like the Student Prince and Sunshine In; from the legendary Stone Pony and Fastlane to alternative clubs like the Green Parrot, T-Birds Cafe and the Saint. The book contains interviews with over 40 artists and features over 70 rare and never before seen photographs, many from the world-famous photographer Debra L. Rothenberg.

Sunday's signing at Antic Hay Books will officially kick off the release of Beyond The Palace. Wien will discuss the book and share memorable stories about things that happened along the way. In addition, many of the photographers who were involved in the making of the book will be showing their works at the signing as well.

A drawing will also be held at Antic Hay Books for a pair of tickets to see Bruce Springsteen at Giants Stadium later in July. Everyone who purchases a copy of the book up until the drawing will have a chance to win. Beyond The Palace was published by Trafford Publishing and retails for $26.
