Diabetes and Cancer Lead Growth Outlook for Drug Delivery

New York (PRWEB) June 20, 2003 - Diabetes and cancer therapeutics represent the greatest growth opportunities for modified drug delivery technologies, according to a new study released today by Kalorama Information. New delivery methods for drugs in both therapeutic areas are poised to see rapid revenue growth in the U.S. market-triple-digit growth in some instances.

The new study, Advanced Drug Delivery: Technologies, Applications, and Markets, revealed that although cardiovascular and central nervous system (CNS) applications will represent the greatest potential revenues, combining for nearly $30 billion in the United States by 2010, modified formulations for diabetes therapeutics will show the fastest growth curve. Innovations in insulin delivery will be felt as early as 2005, and growth could easily surpass the 75% mark in the period from 2005 to 2010, according to the findings.

However, opportunities can be a mixed blessing," warns Kenneth G. Krul, PhD, the author of the report. There is some real money to be made through expertise in drug delivery technology, but at the moment there is no clear pattern to indicate which will be the most successful approaches."

The study examines each technology area that is being developed and each of the top therapeutic areas where drug delivery will have the largest impact. Forecasts to 2010 are provided of U.S. market potential for delivery-modified therapeutics in the fields of cardiovascular disease, cancer, CNS, diabetes, womens health, infectious disease, and pulmonary disease. How drug delivery will impact clinical practice and the strategic positions of small and large pharmaceutical concerns is also analyzed. Extensive company profiles of more than 25 top firms round out the 480-page report.
