The fourth JOIN HANDS DAY is June 21, 2003
Naperville, Ill. - More than 3,500 Kohl's Department Stores associates will volunteer more than 12,000 hours in their communities Saturday, June 21, in what will be the single largest corporate volunteer effort in support of JOIN HANDS DAY.
Across the continent on June 21, young people and adults will come together for JOIN HANDS DAY, a national event that builds relationships and increases respect between generations while they volunteer together to improve their own communities.
To create the partnerships, adult groups and youth organizations will work together to plan and implement projects, with people of all ages taking on important responsibilities. To find a project near you, go to the web site www.joinhandsday.org and go to > Locate a Project.
Kohl's To Involve 300 Locations Gathering at more than 300 locations nationwide, Kohl's associates, working with local organizations, including Kids Care Clubs, a program of the Points of Light Foundation, will volunteer to support children and children's hospitals. Activities include personally decorating Giggle Bags® , Cool Hats® and Comfort Pillows® for sick and injured children. In all, some 30,000 Cool Hats, Giggle Bags, and Comfort Pillows will be delivered to hospitalized children across the country.
Kohl's associates will work alongside members of the Points of Light Foundation's Kids Care Clubs to create the gifts.
"Kohl's associates have always been very generous with volunteering in their communities. By participating in JOIN HANDS DAY, we're able to demonstrate the breadth and depth of our commitment to improving education and health opportunities for children," said Julie Gardner, senior vice president of marketing.
This is the first year that Kohl's has worked with the Points of Light Foundation on JOIN HANDS DAY.
"Kohl's is a model for other businesses. We hope that the size of Kohl's efforts on JOIN HANDS DAY will draw more attention to this unique day and encourage other corporations to get involved in a big way," said Robert Goodwin, President and CEO of the Points of Light Foundation & Volunteer Center Network. "The JOIN HANDS DAY event is working together to make our communities better, and we are proud to partner with Kohl's on this effort."
