ACTING FOR NON-ACTORS

ONE DAY INTENSIVE ACTING CLASS
WITH CATHY HAASE

If you've ever wondered about the techniques used by professional film actors to bring their screen characters to life, here's your opportunity to find out. The Harbor Conservatory is offering a six hour intensive Acting Class taught by Cathy Haase on Saturday, July 12th for adults ages 18 and above. Beginning at 12 noon until 6:00 pm, the class will be conducted in both English and Spanish. The Harbor Conservatory is located at One East 104th Street and Fifth Avenue in Manhattan. For new students the fee is $45 plus a $20 registration fee. For registered Conservatory students the fee is $40. To register please call, Daphne Richards, Drama Program Director at 212/427-2244 ext. 558.

By using life experiences, observations and your imagination, students will create believable characters through improvisation and exercises. Bring a poem, words to a song or a monologue to class, it doesn't need to be memorized. This class is appropriate for anyone who has ever been curious about the art of acting.

Cathy Haase is a life time member of the Actors Studio and a faculty member of the School of Visual Arts. She teaches workshops for actors privately or through hosting theaters in New York City, Vermont and Europe. Ms. Haase has performed extensively in the United States and Europe. Her stage credits include: "Richard the Third", "Amy's View", "Entertaining Mr. Sloane" and her film credits are: "The Kill-Off", "Another 48 Hrs.", and "Ballad of Little Jo". Her first book, "Acting for Film" has recently been released by Allworth Press.

The Harbor Conservatory offers pre-professional training in music, dance and theater to youth primarily from East and Central Harlem. Professional skills are acquired through specific skill training, solo and ensemble performance, preparation for higher education, and coaching in professional career skills. In addition to receiving the most intensive and professional arts training, Harbor faculty provides students with one-on-one counseling, professional management and direction, advice about and preparations for auditions and competitions. Regularly, television and film producers, talent scouts, advertising agencies, and Broadway/Off-Broadway producers call upon the Conservatory to recruit talented youth.

While training at the Conservatory, numerous Harbor students have successfully enrolled in schools specializing in the performing arts such as Talent Unlimited High School, Professional Performing Arts School and LaGuardia High School for the Performing Arts, as well as professional schools like Julliard. Harbor successes also involve accomplishments in the commercial theater. Two graduates of the Harbor Theater Arts Program, Scott Irby Ranniar and Mwanzaa Brown, have each performed in the featured role of Young Simba in The Lion King on Broadway.
