Ethereal Images Spotted at the Science Center

PHILADELPHIA, PA (PRWEB) June 26, 2003 - Imagine sitting at a desk and having a computer-generated image hover in front of you-just hanging out there in the air. You are able to seemingly touch the image, and even take measurements from it. No special glasses or even a darkened room are required. Just some simple to use, affordable hardware and you are able to view images in three dimensions and manipulate them in real time.
One of the newest companies to move into the Science Center Port, Ethereal Technologies, Inc., has developed a remarkable system that makes this all possible, and now they are in the process of marketing it.
Our system lets you take images-everything from CAD drawings to stereo images from inexpensive web cameras-and project them in three dimensions. Four dimensions, really, if you include time." said Ethereal President and CEO Linda Yu. Ours is a real-time system."
Ethereals propriety system is a unique combination of advanced optics, prisms and software, according to Yu. Ethereals VIS4D Workstation mimics 'stereopsis-the human technology that allows us to see an object in all of its dimensions," Yu said. The system uses a complex surface lens as part of a prism structure that projects right in front of you, a clear, high-resolution image with height, width and depth."
Yu said she believes Ethereal has just scratched the surface of the technologys market potential and is currently seeking strategic partners interested in enhanced visualization applied to 3D modeling simulation, or real time" application using stereo visual or even, non visual data. Using our system to visualize" thermography sensor readings in detection of, for example, oil deposits in ground, or use infra-red sensors in 3D for night vision inspections has the ability to dramatically reduce visual guesswork" that could be extremely costly to companies large and small. This technology, applied correctly, could be the ultimate killer application" for industry applications where exacting" visualization really matters".
When the young company decided to locate their offices in the region, Ethereal looked to the Science Center Port, and to the Ports associated corporate advisory firm, Phoenician Corporate Advisors, for assistance. The Science Center Port is a great place to operate," said Leslie Mitts of Phoenician, and it makes infrastructure support as well as access to capital available." Added Mitts, Science Center CEO Jill Felix and the concerted effort of her staff really gave us a helping hand in creating an entrepreneurial fellowship for Ethereal, which helped us in relocating the companys technology from Ann Arbor."
Ethereal Technologies is developer of virtual reality displays that produce the highest quality, natural to the eye volumetric" images, without the need for special viewing glasses or aids. The crystal clear, 4-D volumetric images incorporate height, width, depth and time, and are projected with astounding clarity into Image space", right before your eyes. Ethereals global customers include the U.S. Department of Defense, major military and government organizations, automobile manufacturers, entertainment companies, design firms and universities.
