MARCONI CHOOSES LYNUXWORKS LynxOS FOR ITS CARRIER CLASS BROADBAND SWITCH
Marconi selects LynxOS from LynuxWorks
SAN JOSE, Calif., 16 June 2003 -- LynuxWorks, Inc. today announced that its real-time operating system (RTOS), LynxOS®, has been selected by Marconi for use in its new SoftSwitch XCD5000 carrier-class broadband switch. In the new SoftSwitch XCD5000, LynxOS is used for the SoftSwitch Call Agent (SCA) and as the platform for the Media Firewall (MFW).
Marconi first selected LynxOS in 1993 to support its System X call control processors, which allowed narrowband System X switches to support increasingly diverse telephony services. After evaluating several systems, Marconi selected LynxOS as the best fit in terms of functionality and performance and for its valuable enhancements relevant to future Marconi carrier-class products. Having experienced no system failures from LynxOS since deployment of the first enhanced System X switches in 1995, Marconi decided to base its SoftSwitch XCD5000 for next-generation broadband services on LynxOS. When we first used LynxOS it worked straight out of the box and proved to be stable," said John Ward, development manager at Marconi. It was natural to base the SoftSwitch XCD5000 on the latest available version of LynxOS."
The standards-based interfaces of LynxOS provide an ideal platform for application code integration, promoting code reuse and shorter development time. This approach allowed the Marconi team to quickly and easily migrate the application suite from System X to the SoftSwitch XCD5000 and to run existing application code on LynxOS alongside new applications written in C++.
Were pleased that Marconi is once again leveraging LynxOS determinism and reliability in its newest product," said Greg Rose, director of product management at LynuxWorks. LynxOS has proven itself in mission-critical applications-from flight critical software to communications infrastructure equipment-and were confident that it will deliver the reliability and robustness needed in future generations of Marconi products."
