Science Center Welcomes New Board Members

The Science Center, the regions leading nonprofit organization dedicated to commercializing new technologies, welcomes six new members to its board.

Philadelphia, PA (PRWEB) June 26, 2003 -the regions leading nonprofit organization dedicated to commercializing new technologies-welcomes six new members to its board.

The Science Center operates the Science Center Port (the regions leading technology-business incubator and accelerator) and one of the largest urban research parks in the world in University City. The Science Center has also been involved in the development of similar parks around the world-from Newark, Delaware to Kyoto, Japan.

Since 1963, the Science Center has supported the commercialization of technology and the growth of technology entrepreneurship-helping to launch over 350 technology companies.

The new board members are:

Richard A. Bendis President, Innovation Philadelphia. In January of 2002, Mr. Bendis came to Philadelphia to help start IP, a public/private partnership devoted to supporting and growing the growth of the regions high tech and life science industries. Previously, he ran the Kansas Technology Enterprise Corporation.

Robert L. Brown Assurance Partner, PriceWaterhouse Coopers, LLP. Mr. Brown has extensive experience as an auditor, consultant and accountant. As a partner in one of the countrys top accounting firms, he is responsible for working with a range of for-profit and nonprofit clients.

Robert D. Falese, Jr. Executive Vice President/Chief Lending Officer, Commerce Bank. As Chief Lending Officer, Mr. Faleses responsibilities include the management of all lending functions for Commerce Bancorp and its subsidiary banks. He has more than 30 years of experience in the banking industry.

Russell E. Kaufman, M.D. Director and CEO, Wistar Institute. Dr. Kaufman runs the Wistar Institute, one of the nations leading nonprofit biomedical research institutions. A distinguished researcher and professor, Dr. Kaufman maintains an active research program investigating the genetics of blood diseases in addition to his administrative duties.

S. Michael Ross, M.D., MHA Vice President for Strategic Business, University of the Sciences in Philadelphia. A podiatrist by training, Dr. Ross has extensive experience as a medical practitioner, an administrator and entrepreneur. In his current position, he is responsible for overseeing all industry-academic collaborations for USP.

Major General Clifford L. Stanley, USMC (ret.) Executive Vice President, University of Pennsylvania. After more than 30 years on active duty with the Marine Corps, Gen. Stanley serves as Penn's chief operating officer, responsible for finance, investments, human resources, business services, facilities and real estate, public safety, information systems,
computing, and internal audit and compliance.
