Doktor Snake - author and self-styled "Voodoo agony uncle" - put up a website asking people to submit their problems (www.doktorsnake.com). He in turn would provide them with free advice and/or spells. He was in for a shock. Hundreds of Harry Potter fans e-mailed him asking for spells, their interest in all things magical having been re-ignited due to the publication of the latest Harry Potter book Order of the Phoenix".
Some wanted love and popularity spells. Others wanted advice on hexing their teachers.
My e-mail inbox got clogged up. They wanted authentic spells from a real live sorcerer to help them pass exams and get boyfriends and girlfriends. Quite a few wanted me to put curses on their teachers," he says.
Snake, who lives in Eastern England, penned Doktor Snakes Voodoo Spellbook: Spells & Curses For All Your Needs" (St Martins Press) a couple of years back.
The book, based on real events in Snake's past, has become a cult classic for those interested in the magical side of life -- including teenage Harry Potter fans.
When Snake put up his new "Voodoo agony uncle" website, Potter fans got wind of it and swarmed to the site.
I couldnt believe it," says Snake. I was getting about 200 hits a week. Then suddenly I was getting thousands of hits a day."
Snake soon realised what had happened when Potter fans began e-mailing him asking for spells.
The Voodoo agony uncle took it in his stride: I gave them good advice -- like I was a Voodoo Hagrid."
